How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Depth drops by one after quotienting by a regular element
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Choice (The Axiom of Choice). Let be Noetherian, let be finite, let lie in the Jacobson radical, and let be -regular. Then with .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The Axiom of Choice and the data and regular element in the statement.
Proof
Regularity includes . Since acts injectively on , no nonzero element of is annihilated by . Thus .
Apply to . Multiplication by on each Ext group is zero because annihilates , so the long exact sequence yields , where . By step 1.1, the first nonzero Ext degree for is either a positive integer or . The sequence makes the first degree for equal when is finite and when all groups vanish. The Ext characterization gives the displayed depth formula with its stated convention.
