How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: The Axiom of Choice; a nonempty complete metric space ; and closed sets covering .
The Axiom of Choice permits the countable recursive choices of nested balls used below (The Axiom of Choice).
Proof
Suppose every has empty interior. Choose a nonempty open ball . Since is closed with empty interior, is nonempty and open; choose a closed ball with .
Inductively, if has been chosen, its interior is a nonempty open set. The closed set has empty interior, so is nonempty and open; choose a closed ball contained there with . Thus the closed balls are nested, and the th ball avoids .
The nested centers form a Cauchy sequence because for one has and . Completeness gives a limit ; each closed ball contains every later center and hence contains . Therefore for every , contradicting . Thus some has nonempty interior.
