How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite matrix trace cyclicity and nondegeneracy
Statement
Let . For and , where is the diagonal-sum trace on . This includes cyclicity for square matrices. For , the bilinear trace pairing is nondegenerate: if for every , then . No adjoint is inserted in this pairing.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Integers , rectangular matrices , , a matrix , and standard matrix units on .
Proof
By matrix multiplication and the diagonal-sum trace, . These are finite scalar sums, so reordering them gives . Taking gives square trace cyclicity.
If for all , choose . Direct multiplication gives , so for every . Thus every matrix entry of vanishes and .
