How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Bounded KMS strip norm and zero-edge uniqueness
Statement
Let and , with interior . Let be bounded (so ), continuous, and complex-differentiable at every point of , and set
For ,
where each exponent is positive and for . In particular, if then on . If two bounded continuous functions on , holomorphic inside, have the same lower boundary values, then they agree on all of .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: and a bounded continuous function holomorphic on .
Hadamard three-lines theorem: for a bounded continuous function on holomorphic inside, the supremum on an interior vertical line is at most the positive-exponent geometric interpolation of the two boundary suprema. The theorem permits zero boundary suprema because both interpolation exponents are strictly positive.
Physical-time KMS strip equilibrium condition: the relevant physical-time strip is the closed strip and a KMS correlation function is bounded, continuous on the closed strip, and holomorphic inside.
Proof
Given: , [F1]–[F2], and as in the Statement.
The KMS convention in [F2] uses the same closed strip when ; the following estimate only needs the stated strip hypotheses. Define on . If , then , so the lines and map to the lower and upper edges of . The linear map is holomorphic and maps the open strip to , so is bounded and continuous on the closed unit strip and holomorphic inside.
For , put . The vertical line maps onto , while the boundary suprema of are exactly and . Applying [F1] gives the asserted interpolation inequality. Both exponents and are positive, so the zero-supremum cases use the defined positive powers and do not invoke .
If , step 2.1 gives for each ; the same bound holds on both edges by definition of . Hence it holds on all of .
Let and be two such functions with identical lower edges. Their difference is bounded, continuous on , holomorphic inside, has lower supremum , and has a finite upper supremum. For every , step 2.1 applied to gives . Thus vanishes in the open strip; continuity then gives zero on the upper edge as well as the lower edge.
Remarks
The boundary uniqueness assertion is used when the lower KMS correlation is already known and a candidate analytic continuation is written explicitly. Boundedness on the whole strip is essential to the cited three-lines theorem; no maximum-principle argument on an unbounded strip is being assumed.
