How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Grand canonical particle-exchange preparation

Physical scope

Classical particle exchange across countably many finite-N sectors at fixed temperature and chemical potential, only when the grand normalization converges.

Postulate

Let T>0 be the prescribed temperature control in kelvins, β=(kBT)−1, and let the chemical-potential control μ have units J per particle under the SI convention SI quantities and unit conventions. In this adopted law, μ is the energy coefficient conjugate to the dimensionless sector count N in the weight e−β(HN−μN); no derivative with respect to integer N is used. For N≥1, let ΓN and its reference measure be those of Classical particle counting and physical observables, and let HN:ΓN→R∪{+∞} be Borel measurable for the sector sigma-algebra FN generated by the open sets of ΓN, with +∞ marking forbidden states, and use the convention e−β(+∞):=0. In each sector require HN(gz)=HN(z) for mNphys-almost every z and every within-species permutation g∈GN, with GN and its action as in Classical particle counting and physical observables. Hence each sector Gibbs density admits an invariant representative; the factor eβμN is constant on that sector and preserves this invariance. Operationally distinguishable labels have trivial permutation factors as in that convention. Define the vacuum sector by Γ0={∗} with sigma-algebra F0={∅,{∗}}, reference mass m0phys({∗})=1, particle number N=0, and vacuum Hamiltonian H0(∗)=0. On the disjoint union G:=⨆N=0∞ΓN, use the sigma-algebra FG:={A⊆G:A∩ΓN∈FN for every N≥0}, where FN is the declared measurable structure on sector N, and the reference measure mphys(A):=∑N=0∞mNphys(A∩ΓN). This disjoint-union reference is sigma-finite because it is a countable sum of the sigma-finite sector references, including the finite vacuum measure. Let Ξ(β,μ):=∑N=0∞∫ΓNe−β(HN−μN) dmNphys satisfy 0<Ξ<∞. Adopt the probability measure on (G,FG) with density ρ(N,z):=Ξ−1e−β(HN(z)−μN) relative to mphys. The finiteness condition is part of the model; it requires control of the sector sum and is not implied by each finite-sector partition function being finite. Particle-exchange preparation is an assumption, not a deduction from fixed-N dynamics. Under the vacuum convention above, the N=0 contribution to Ξ is exactly one.
