How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Drude current closure and collisionless limit
A phenomenological classical free-carrier response closure in a fixed homogeneous material rest frame. It is spatially local and linear, with a single relaxation rate and a fixed nondispersive scalar magnetic coefficient; no microscopic carrier-statistics claim is made. It asserts no empirical validity; spatial dispersion, nonlinear response, moving-media laws and quantum carrier effects are outside its scope.
Postulate
Use a material rest frame: an inertial frame in whose coordinates each modelled material element has fixed spatial position and history , as defined by the framework's earlier material-closure formulation. In that frame, let be the electric field and polarization, and let be a free-carrier current density. At every fixed , require and , so the displayed time derivatives are classical. These are time-regularity conditions only; this postulate imposes no spatial regularity, which must be stated separately wherever a consuming field-equation result requires it. In SI, is V m, is C m, and is A m. Adopt
The constant scalar parameters satisfy , , and . Their units are respectively F m, H m, F m s and s. The fields and have units A m and C m. All coefficients are independent of and , and the equation at depends only on the state and electric field at ; these clauses define the homogeneous, linear, spatially local closure used here. To identify these constitutive quantities with the framework's macroscopic definitions, stipulate and . Then and . This is a constitutive identification within the model, not a microscopic decomposition.
At an initial time , and are state data. A constant polarization offset is fixed with the Gauss-law data and is not determined by the current equation alone. The branch is the collisionless model; it has no decaying stationary impulse kernel, and its zero-frequency response is not part of this postulate. This is a phenomenological closure, not a derivation of carrier mass, density, collision statistics or any actual material response.
