How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Periodic Boltzmann model with incoming molecular chaos
A single-species periodic Boltzmann kinetic model with elastic binary collision data and the stated incoming-pair molecular-chaos closure. Dilute-gas applicability is qualitative; no density threshold, hard-sphere or Boltzmann–Grad limit, or many-particle derivation is asserted.
Postulate
Let with opposite faces identified, let be an open time interval in seconds, and let be a one-particle number density for , , and . With in metres and in , has units relative to ; its moments used below are assumed finite. For this postulate, require to be jointly measurable and periodic in , with continuously differentiable for each fixed and its derivatives jointly measurable. Require , , and to be locally integrable with respect to product Lebesgue measure. Periodic boundary conditions are imposed in .
Adopt the incoming molecular-chaos closure: at a collision location and time, the incoming two-particle velocity density used in the collision term is . This is a one-sided factorization assumption; no factorization of the outgoing pair and no derivation from reversible many-particle mechanics is asserted.
For the elastic data of Regular single-species elastic collision data, adopt a collision operator , with units of per second, as a jointly measurable locally integrable representative whose velocity-wise weak action satisfies, for almost every and every measurable test function for which both sides converge absolutely, The adopted kinetic equation is as an equality of locally integrable functions almost everywhere on the product domain. These are admissibility conditions for solutions of the adopted model, not an existence assertion. The equation and weak collision identity are model postulates. This item does not assert a hard-sphere Boltzmann–Grad limit, propagation of chaos, or universal equilibration.
