How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Fourier heat-flux constitutive model
An idealized local-equilibrium continuum regime in which the first-order Fourier relation is adopted. No quantitative gradient threshold or empirically validated coefficient range is specified; the conductivity may be anisotropic and state dependent.
Postulate
For the field record of Rectangular local-equilibrium field data, adopt Here has entries in and in , so the equation is dimensionally consistent. Write for the symmetric part and assume for every . Define the thermal quadratic density by with units . For the antisymmetric part , the scalar equals its own negative by transposition, so it is zero. Thus may contribute to but not to , and . Interpreting this density as entropy production additionally requires a local entropy map in with , the energy balance , and regularity permitting the product and chain rules; under those additional assumptions the entropy balance is . This postulate alone adopts neither that caloric entropy relation nor the energy balance.
This is an adopted constitutive model in the stated continuum regime. It is neither a consequence of equilibrium entropy alone nor a universal law for all media. In particular, it does not assert a finite propagation speed or an empirical value for .
