How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Supported-rest effective Cattaneo thermal model

Physical scope

A constant-coefficient linear thermal subsystem on fixed Minkowski spacetime with an externally supported rest congruence; when used, the flat torus represents spatially periodic fields lifted to Minkowski rest slices and is not a spacetime quotient. Effective quadratic entropy is adopted only on a declared near-equilibrium state neighborhood. It is not a full fluid model, universal constitutive law, measured material model, or microscopic derivation.

Postulate

Use the length-coordinate and unit-observer conventions of Thermodynamics-GR fields, currents, reference normalization and units. Fix Minkowski spacetime M=R4 with metric η=diag⁡(−1,1,1,1) in coordinates (x0,x1,x2,x3)=(ct,x), where t is physical time in seconds, xi are in metres, and c>0 is in m s−1. The supported rest observer congruence is the smooth future unit vector field u=∂x0, so η(u,u)=−1. An external support maintains the modeled material at rest in this congruence; the support is not a dynamical variable, and this subsystem does not claim to include the momentum equations of a full fluid.

Fix constants T0>0 in K, volumetric heat capacity C>0 in J m−3 K−1, thermal conductivity κ>0 in W m−1 K−1, and relaxation time τ>0 in seconds. Select an open state neighborhood D of (0,0) in R×R3 contained in {(ϑ,q):T0+ϑ>0}. The neighborhood is part of the application regime; no universal numerical size is asserted. Let I⊆R be an open interval of physical time, and define ιI:I×R3→M by ιI(t,x)=(ct,x); it identifies these coordinates with an open region of Minkowski spacetime. Choose either Σ=R3 or, for a fixed L>0, Σ=TL3:=R3/(LZ3) with its flat quotient metric; when Σ=TL3, let πL:R3→TL3 be the quotient map. The spacetime remains M=R4: the torus is only an analytic representation of spatially L-periodic fields on its Minkowski rest slices, not a quotient of spacetime. Take smooth fields ϑ:I×Σ→R and q:I×Σ→R3 with (ϑ(t,x),q(t,x))∈D. If Σ=TL3, their physical fields on the rest slices are the smooth periodic lifts ϑ~(t,x):=ϑ(t,πL(x)) and q~(t,x):=q(t,πL(x)) on I×R3; under ιI, these are coordinate representatives of fields on ιI(I×R3)⊂M. If Σ=R3, the given fields are already coordinate representatives on that region. Here ϑ is the temperature departure in K, T=T0+ϑ is the local temperature, and q is the physical heat-flux vector in the supported rest space, expressed in its fixed Cartesian rest basis and measured in W m−2. Spatial ∇ and div⁡ are Euclidean derivatives in metres on the Minkowski rest space, evaluated by periodic lifts when Σ=TL3.

In the source-free effective model, adopt

C ∂tϑ+div⁡q=0,τ ∂tq+q=−κ∇ϑ.

The first equation is the subsystem's thermal-energy balance and the second is its Cattaneo constitutive relation. Also adopt the specified effective quadratic entropy density and entropy flux

seff:=s0+CϑT0−Cϑ22T02−τ∣q∣22κT02,js:=qT0−ϑqT02,

where s0 is constant. Both s0 and seff have units J K−1 m−3, and js has units J K−1 m−2 s−1. This quadratic function is an adopted effective state function on D, not the exact nonlinear material entropy or a particle Gibbs equation of state. The model assigns no measured values to its coefficients, reports no experiment, and derives no microscopic transport law.
