How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Electromagnetic and matter stress exchange
Local stress exchange on smooth solutions of the adopted vacuum Maxwell system and one selected invariant matter action. The result is conditional on the matter fields being on shell. It asserts no global gravitational energy, Killing charge without symmetry and flux hypotheses, or coupled PDE solution.
Statement
Let be a smooth oriented, time-oriented Lorentzian four-manifold with signature , and let be open. Restrict to the fixed smooth principal bundle and connection selected in Selected invariant matter-action contract. In its normalized local representatives , the physical local potentials are ; their global physical curvature satisfies and . The and below are the curvature and current of that same connection and selected action. Let and be smooth, and assume the adopted Maxwell equations and of Smooth curved vacuum Maxwell constitutive adoption. Let be the selected smooth invariant matter functional of Selected invariant matter-action contract, satisfying the section-bundle, real functional-domain, compact-variation splitting, and supplied smooth pathwise-transport hypotheses of Gauge/diffeomorphism matter identity and field exchange for this same connection. Suppose its matter fields are on shell. Define by the local Maxwell variation and by the Hilbert variation of . Then
Use the curvature convention of Oriented Lorentzian fields, observers and coordinate conventions and define the scalar curvature by and the Einstein tensor by . Set using the SI constants of Einstein–Maxwell primitive quantities and SI conventions. If, in addition, the pointwise Einstein equation holds with constant , the contracted Bianchi identity shows that the total conservation law is its necessary source-compatibility condition. This local identity is not a universal gravitational energy statement and does not imply existence of a solution.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A smooth oriented, time-oriented Lorentzian geometry, smooth , the adopted sourced Maxwell equations, and one selected gauge/diffeomorphism-invariant matter action whose matter fields satisfy its Euler–Lagrange equations, under the indexed countable-choice convention [A2].
Smooth curved vacuum Maxwell constitutive adoption: and for smooth fields in the chosen SI convention.
Selected invariant matter-action contract: the chosen action has compact fixed-sector physical-potential variations with curvature variation and matter coefficient . Its inverse-metric coefficient defines the symmetric Hilbert tensor , and it is invariant under the stated gauge transformations and horizontal-lifted diffeomorphisms.
Curved electromagnetic stress divergence: for smooth fields satisfying and , .
Gauge/diffeomorphism matter identity and field exchange: for the same principal-bundle connection and physical one-form variation, the horizontal lift of a compact vector field has ; on the matter equations of the selected invariant action, .
The second Bianchi identity and the vanishing divergence of the Einstein tensor: for the smooth metric-selected Lorentzian connection, which is metric-compatible.
Einstein–Maxwell primitive quantities and SI conventions: and are constant SI model parameters and , so .
The cosmological parameter and coupling are constant, and all fields in the local identities are smooth; no singular point-field stress is used.
The compact-integration suppliers use the indexed countable-choice convention The Axiom of Countable Choice (): every sequence of nonempty sets has a choice function. No full Axiom of Choice is used.
Proof
Proof technique: apply the two conditional divergence identities and add their opposite force terms.
Apply [F3] using the smoothness and Maxwell equations in [F1]. This gives pointwise on . The sign is fixed by the sourced convention in [F1].
Apply [F4] to the same current and the selected matter model in [F2]. The selected section bundle, real functional domain, freezing and linear partial-variation rule, and compact smooth pathwise transports satisfy the full interface of [F4] by hypothesis. Because the matter fields are on shell and the action has the required invariances, . This term is the force received by the matter subsystem, not separate matter conservation.
Add the identities in steps 1.1 and 1.2. Their right sides are exact opposites with the same raised-index convention, so .
If the pointwise Einstein equation in the Statement also holds, take its covariant divergence. By [F5], ; metric compatibility gives because is constant. By [F6], , so the field equation requires . This agrees with step 2.1 after lowering its free index and is only a compatibility condition; it does not solve the field equations.
