How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Identification of the model's scattering operator with the on-shell stationary operator, and the central per-channel form
The declared short-range scattering model with a real bounded compactly supported potential: identification of the model's dynamical scattering operator, read as the product of the wave operators, with the on-shell stationary operator built from the model's stationary amplitude, including the free energy-angular diagonalization, the rotational covariance, and the diagonal per-channel form with the unit-modulus channel factors for a central potential. Conditional on the declared model and the cited mathematics; the identification is an operator statement, not a measurement statement, and no cross-section observation is asserted.
Statement
Adopt the declared short-range scattering model The declared short-range scattering model: state space, potential classes, assigned energy observables, asymptotic vocabulary and units with mass , spin zero and a compact-support-class potential supported in ; by Asymptotic completeness and the unitary scattering operator for real bounded compactly supported potentials the model's wave operators exist and is unitary on and commutes with the free flow. Write for surface measure on and , and for every let be the model's stationary amplitude of The model's stationary scattering wave, its outgoing amplitude and the differential and total cross-section readings at incident direction , with the operator on defined by Assume the Axiom of Countable Choice and the Axiom of Choice (The Axiom of Countable Choice (), The Axiom of Choice). Then:
(a) the free flow is diagonalized by the free trace transform of the cited mathematics, a unitary with in the energy-divided variables of the scaling correspondence, where this auxiliary has units and the physical energy is , and the model's scattering operator is carried into multiplication,
(b) for almost every the on-shell operator is a unitary operator on , and the model's stationary amplitude is the kernel of ;
(c) for let and ; then
(d) if is in addition central, the fiber decomposes in the spherical harmonic basis, with integer labels and , as , where and are the model's channel factor and phase shift of The model's partial-wave and phase-shift vocabulary for a declared central potential, equal to the Wronskian ratio , and the cross-section reading of Partial-wave expansion, unit-modulus channel factors and the phase-shift cross-section series is the phase-shift series of that channel decomposition.
The statement identifies operators and operators-valued functions of the declared model; it asserts no measurement of or , no detector model and no empirical claim.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: the declared model with , compact-support-class supported in ; the model's wave operators, scattering operator and stationary amplitude; the free trace transform ; the choice hypotheses.
Stationary and dynamical sector identification. Assume Countable Choice. For real bounded compactly supported , with , and its complete scattering operator, the free trace transform is unitary onto , with unitary, built from the stationary amplitude, , and for radial the fiber is diagonal with , (Stationary and dynamical scattering in the full energy-angular representation clauses (a), (b), (c), (d)).
The model's amplitude and . The model's amplitude is the stationary theorem's amplitude for the reduced potential , and the model's is the unitary operator of the compact-support completeness theorem (The model's stationary scattering wave, its outgoing amplitude and the differential and total cross-section readings clause (b), Asymptotic completeness and the unitary scattering operator for real bounded compactly supported potentials clause (c)).
The channel vocabulary. For a central short-range potential the model declares and (The model's partial-wave and phase-shift vocabulary for a declared central potential clause (c)).
Proof
Given: the data and hypotheses of the statement and [F1]-[F3].
The reduced potential is real, bounded and supported in , so [F1] applies to it; by the scaling correspondence the model's operators are with , and the physical and energy-divided wave operators coincide.
By [F2] the model's stationary amplitude for direction is the amplitude of [F1]'s stationary problem for at the same wave number ; hence is exactly the on-shell amplitude operator of [F1].
By [F1] the free trace transform diagonalizes the free flow and with ; since the model's and are the same operators as in [F1] by steps 1.1 and 2.1, the displays of (a) and (b) follow, including unitarity of the on-shell operator.
By [F1] the covariance identity holds for the energy-divided potential; since rotations act on exactly as on through , the same identity is the model's (c).
If is central, so is ; [F1], with its integer harmonic index renamed as in [F3], gives with ; by [F3] the model's channel vocabulary names exactly these objects and , and the phase-shift series of the partial-wave theorem is the total cross-section reading of this decomposition. This is (d) and completes the proof.
Remarks
- What the identification is. The identity is an operator identity for the declared model; it is the precise sense in which the pair may speak of "the S-matrix at physical energy ", and it makes no claim that any apparatus measures .
- Non-central potentials. For a non-central potential no individual spherical-harmonic channel is asserted; only the covariance of (c) holds.
