How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Prepared non-Maxwellian distribution and initial layer
Hypothetical spatially homogeneous preparation for the single-species BGK model, using a compactly supported non-Maxwellian initial velocity density. No apparatus, observation, or empirical relaxation is reported.
Statement
Assume Countable Choice : every -indexed family of nonempty sets has a choice function.
Consider a hypothetical homogeneous three-dimensional gas with particle mass in kilograms, Boltzmann constant in joules per kelvin, number density in , translational temperature in kelvins, and a constant reference density with the same units as the velocity density below. Put in , in , and define the prepared number density in velocity space by
The density has units , so is a number density in .
Here is the function equal to one on the cube and zero outside it. The corresponding Maxwellian with the same number density, zero mean velocity, and temperature is
Define the dimensionless weighted norm by , where ; for velocity densities it has units . Under the homogeneous fast-scale conserving BGK model with seconds and dimensionless , this preparation has an exact initial-layer solution: for every fixed , in this weighted norm as , while . The compactly supported is a hypothetical distribution, not an observed preparation or experiment.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Countable Choice and with the units and dimensionless conventions in the statement, the hypothetical , and the homogeneous BGK model.
Exact equilibrium approach in the BGK model: under Countable Choice, for nonnegative initial data with finite moment, where , positive number density and centered second moment, and finite reference-relative entropy, the homogeneous fast-scale BGK solution has the exact formula and weighted-norm equality in its Statement.
The Axiom of Countable Choice (): the assumed Countable Choice is inherited from the kinetic measure and Gaussian-moment conventions of [F1]; the explicit cube preparation requires no additional choice.
Proof
Let and . The cube has volume , so . Symmetry of each interval gives . For the second moment, each coordinate contributes , so ; dividing by gives mean square speed . Thus , so the mean velocity is zero and its temperature is . On the support, , hence . With in the same units as , , using .
The Maxwellian is strictly positive on all of , whereas vanishes outside the compact cube, so almost everywhere and . The data in step 1.1 satisfy the hypotheses of [F1]; applying it under [A1] gives the exact solution and exponential weighted-norm equality.
For each fixed , as , so the equality in step 2.1 gives in weighted . At , the solution is , whose positive mismatch was proved in step 2.1. The initial layer is therefore a conditional model prediction for this hypothetical preparation, not an empirical result.
Remarks
Supplier status for Exact equilibrium approach in the BGK model: (current same-batch draft physics theorem; its K01 mathematical suppliers, including Exact homogeneous BGK fast relaxation and Exponential reference-relative entropy bound for homogeneous BGK, are current draft carriers with Step 1 readiness records marked ready, recording authoring readiness but not proof acceptance).
