How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite-budget improved-tangent NEB with a climbing image
Definition
Let satisfy Regular minimum-energy paths on a declared collision-free tube. Inputs: an integer , images in , spring constant , fixed step , force and spacing tolerances , an ordinary-step count , and a finite update budget . Require . Output: the last chain and one of tolerances-met, tangent-failure, geometry-failure, nonfinite-evaluation, or budget-exhausted.
At each iteration, endpoints are fixed and only interior images are updated. First evaluate for every image; if any energy is nonfinite, return nonfinite-evaluation before making energy comparisons. For , write and . Select an unnormalized tangent by
where and . When , the displayed centered-chord branch is the algorithm's explicit tie convention; it is a local completion of the strict-comparison rule in the cited improved-tangent formula. If , return tangent-failure; otherwise set . Next evaluate for every interior image; if any gradient is nonfinite, return nonfinite-evaluation before forming forces.
Initialize the update counter . At iteration , use the ordinary force
When , choose the least index attaining the largest interior energy and replace that image's force by
the climbing image has no spring force. The remaining interior images retain the ordinary force. If any resulting force is nonfinite, return nonfinite-evaluation. Thus iterations use ordinary forces and the first climbing force is evaluated at iteration . At each iteration report the maximum force norm and spacing residual . Stop with tolerances-met only if both are within their declared tolerances. If a tolerance fails and , return budget-exhausted; only when update every interior image by . Leaving returns geometry-failure. After a valid update set and repeat. The tolerance check precedes the budget check, so still checks the initial chain and uses a climbing force at the final residual check (without an update if the budget is then exhausted).
The finite stopping status does not assert convergence to a MEP, a saddle, or a continuum path.

3 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
