How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite-image projected-gradient string with arc-length redistribution
Definition
Let satisfy Regular minimum-energy paths on a declared collision-free tube. Inputs: an integer , images in , a step size , force and spacing tolerances , and a finite update budget . Output: the last image chain and one of tolerances-met, geometry-failure, nonfinite-evaluation, or budget-exhausted. A stop status is an algorithmic report, not a continuum-error certificate.
At iteration , perform the following in order. After every arithmetic operation or norm evaluation below, return nonfinite-evaluation if its scalar or vector result is nonfinite, before using that result in a comparison, normalization, segment lookup, or subsequent operation. In particular, this check applies to chords, lengths, cumulative lengths, target lengths, and interpolated images.
- For each interior , form the centered chord . If , return
geometry-failure. Otherwise put and . If any force is nonfinite, returnnonfinite-evaluation. - For the current chain set for , , , and . If and , return
tolerances-met. - If , return
budget-exhausted. Otherwise set , , and for interior images. Reject any nonfinite withnonfinite-evaluation; if any , returngeometry-failure. - Compute cumulative lengths , , and total length . If or the computed cumulative lengths are not strictly increasing, return
geometry-failure. For , place the new image at the unique point of the piecewise-linear polygon whose cumulative length is ; if that target is a vertex, use that vertex, and otherwise use linear interpolation on its unique containing segment. If any redistributed image lies outside , returngeometry-failure. Set and use the checked redistributed points as the new interior images.
This is the specified projected-force string variant. No convergence from arbitrary initial images, no automatic endpoint minimization, and no error estimate follow from the procedure alone.

- A corner has no unique tangent and a cusp gives a zero centered chord Example
- A curved double well has an exact circular minimum-energy path Example
- Zero discrete force does not select a unique continuum path Example
- Centered-tangent string residuals are second-order consistent on a regular MEP Proposition
Dependency tree · two levels
3 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
