How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Asymptotic comparison of resource bounds

Definition

Let f,g:N[0,). We say that f is asymptotically bounded by g, and write f(n)=O(g(n)), when there exist constants c>0 and n0N such that f(n)cg(n)(nn0).

We say that two bounds are of the same asymptotic order when each is O-bounded by the other. Fix further bounds t,s:N[0,).

If M is a machine in the sense of Worst-case time and space complexity of a machine and halts on every input, then its worst-case resource functions are defined at every input length, and:

  • M has time complexity O(t(n)) when TimeM(n)=O(t(n));
  • M has space complexity O(s(n)) when SpaceM(n)=O(s(n)).

Remarks

  • These comparisons forget constant factors and finite prefixes.

  • Later invariance statements are about preservation of classes under this asymptotic relation, not equality of exact running times.

Dependency tree · two levels

4 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
