How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Clamped cubic spline interpolant

Definition

Let a=x0<x1<⋯<xm=b, with m≥1, let y0,…,ym∈R, and prescribe endpoint slopes σa,σb∈R. A clamped cubic spline interpolant for these data is a function s∈C2([a,b]) whose restriction to every [xi,xi+1] is a polynomial of degree at most three, which satisfies s(xi)=yi for every i, and which satisfies s′(a)=σa and s′(b)=σb.

Here C2 means that the function and its first two derivatives are continuous on [a,b], with one-sided derivatives at the endpoints. This uses the piecewise-cubic convention in Natural cubic splines and replaces its natural endpoint-curvature conditions by prescribed endpoint slopes. It does not alter the natural cubic interpolant or its system.

1 result within one dependency step of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
