How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Zero-cost information capacity of a countable-input finite-output DMC

Definition

A countable-input finite-output DMC has input alphabet N>0={1,2,…}, a finite nonempty output alphabet Y, and row probabilities W(y∣x)≥0 with ∑y∈YW(y∣x)=1 for each x. At blocklength n, its channel law is Wn(yn∣xn)=∏t=1nW(yt∣xt). An input law is a sequence (px)x≥1 with px≥0 and ∑xpx=1. Give every input symbol cost c(x)=0 and budget Γ=0. Its output law is q(y)=∑xpxW(y∣x), and define H(q)=−∑y∈Yq(y)ln⁡q(y),H(Y∣X)=∑x≥1px[−∑y∈YW(y∣x)ln⁡W(y∣x)], where finite entropy is as in Finite distributions, entropy, divergence, and stochastic matrices, 0ln⁡0=0, and logarithms are natural The natural logarithm as the inverse of the exponential function. The conditional-entropy series converges because each summand entropy lies between 0 and ln⁡∣Y∣ by Finite-simplex entropy is continuous and concave. Define I(p;W):=H(q)−H(Y∣X) and the zero-cost information capacity CI(0):=sup⁡pI(p;W) over all countable input laws. This definition alone makes no assertion that the supremum is attained or equals an operational coding capacity.

9 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
