How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Freedman disk-embedding data
Definition
Let be a compact connected oriented topological -manifold with nonempty boundary, let , and put . A finite relative disk-embedding datum consists of proper generic immersions , , whose boundary circles are embedded and pairwise disjoint, together with framed generic immersions that are algebraically dual to the disks. A topological generic immersion has the local models of a smooth generic immersion: at a point with one inverse image its image sheet is locally flat, with a proper half-space chart at boundary points in which the disk is a half-plane and its boundary lies on the ambient boundary, and each of its finitely many self-double points has exactly two preimages and the coordinate-plane model and in a chart of . All mutual intersections among the disk and sphere maps are also required to be finite and transverse, so the equivariant intersection sums below are finite. Proper means that the inverse image of is exactly the domain boundary. Each disk is supplied with a specified normal framing along , equivalently the framing of its boundary attaching solid torus; this boundary framing is part of the datum and need not extend over . Each sphere is supplied with a trivialization of its normal microbundle over . Choose paths from to the immersed surfaces and orient the surfaces. Each transverse intersection of two surfaces contributes to , where compares their induced local orientation with the chosen orientation of , and is the loop that travels along the chosen path to the first surface, then to , and returns along the second surface and its chosen path. Thus is a signed equivariant intersection sum in . Wall's self-intersection sum is the signed sum over self-double points in , because interchanging the two sheets replaces a label by its inverse. The relative normal Euler (boundary-framing) obstruction of is zero precisely when its specified boundary framing extends over ; the datum does not assume that it vanishes. The spheres are algebraically dual when , for every , and for every . The disk data are algebraically unobstructed when also for and for every .

2 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
