How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Polynomial identity testing

Definition

Fix a field F and a representation of multivariate polynomials over F[x1,,xm] for which:

  • the number of variables m and a total-degree bound d can be computed in polynomial time from the input representation, and
  • evaluation at any chosen point of Fm can be performed in polynomial time.

The corresponding polynomial identity testing problem (PIT) asks whether a given represented polynomial is the zero polynomial of Polynomial rings in finitely many commuting indeterminates by iteration, with total degree understood as in Monomials, coefficients, degree in each variable and total degree in F[x1,,xn].

Remarks

  • The input is a representation of a polynomial, not its full value table.
  • The later coRP classification uses random evaluation together with an explicit finite sample set whose size dominates the degree bound.
