How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Truncation functors, t-cohomology, amplitude and bounded t-structures
Definition
Let be a t-structure on a triangulated category with translation (Canonical t structure on a derived category, Triangulated category), and set and for ; thus exactly when , and exactly when .
For and , the t-structure axiom applied to the translate and then shifted by produces a distinguished triangle with and ; such a triangle is a truncation triangle of at . Truncation triangles of the same at the same are canonically isomorphic over , so the objects and maps occurring in them are determined up to a unique compatible isomorphism (Truncation triangles are essentially unique and give adjoint truncation functors ↗); one writes and for the resulting truncation functors.
The t-cohomology of is an object of the heart (t-cohomology is functorial, additive, shift-compatible and detects amplitude ↗). The amplitude of is the set of with ; it is contained in an interval when for every . The t-structure is bounded when every object of lies in for some integer depending on the object.
This item fixes notation and conventions only. Existence of the truncation triangle is the t-structure axiom itself, applied to and shifted; the essential uniqueness of that triangle, the functoriality of the truncations and all algebraic properties of , and are proved in the two immediately following lemmas.

10 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
