How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The opposite untwisted Hall algebra of a hereditary heart embeds in the derived Hall algebra
Statement
Let be a locally finite dg-enhancement over , and let . Suppose has a bounded t-structure whose heart is a small finitary hereditary abelian category, and suppose the inclusion induces an exact equivalence under which short exact sequences in correspond to distinguished triangles with all three terms in the heart. Here hereditary means cohomological dimension at most one: for all and .
The untwisted Hall product The untwisted Hall algebra of a finitary abelian category uses the convention that counts subobjects isomorphic to with quotient . With this convention, the basis map
is an injective algebra anti-homomorphism:
Equivalently, it is an algebra embedding . Its image is the subalgebra spanned by the characteristic functions of heart objects.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The dg-enhancement, the bounded t-structure and the hereditary heart specified in the statement.
A t-structure has ; its heart is , and boundedness is defined using the truncation subcategories (Canonical t structure on a derived category, Truncation functors, t-cohomology, amplitude and bounded t-structures).
The derived Hall number counts arrows with homotopy cofiber , with the higher-Ext factor in Toën derived Hall numbers have the higher-Ext orbit formula.
The ordinary product is , where counts subobjects with and (The untwisted Hall algebra of a finitary abelian category).
This ordinary product is well-defined and associative with unit (Small finitary abelian categories for Hall multiplication, Untwisted Hall structure constants and products are finite, The untwisted Hall product is associative and unital).
The heart inclusion has the exact realization stated in the hypotheses: a triangle with has and is the triangle of a short exact sequence .
Proof
If lie in and , then some arrow has cofiber , giving a distinguished triangle . By [A1], lies in and the triangle is a short exact sequence . Thus the span of heart classes is closed under the derived Hall product.
For , and for every . Orthogonality in [F1] gives ; the same holds with . The coefficient formula [F2] therefore reduces to .
Each subobject of with domain isomorphic to and quotient isomorphic to gives, after identifying its domain with , a map in . Two such identifications give maps in the same -orbit. Conversely every map in is the monomorphism in the short exact sequence of [A1]. The action is free because a monomorphism with forces . Thus the orbit count equals in the convention of [F3].
For all , step 2.1 gives . Hence is an anti-homomorphism, or equivalently a homomorphism from the opposite algebra. It is injective because distinct heart isomorphism classes are distinct basis vectors of ; closure follows from step 1.1. The algebra and unit claims are those of [F4] and Toën derived Hall multiplication is associative and unital.
Convention note
Toën's product counts the source as the subobject and the cofiber as the quotient. The current finitary Hall supplier uses the opposite naming order: the second product input is the subobject and the first is the quotient. The opposite-algebra formulation above makes this convention difference explicit.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
