How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
An orthogonal ensemble attains its Holevo information
Example
Let have a finite probability vector and let have orthonormal basis . Set , where , and measure with the projective POVM . Define the joint law and its output marginal . With and , the Holevo information and the measurement mutual information both equal .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The probability vector, orthonormal basis, ensemble, and POVM in the Example.
Finite-dimensional von Neumann entropy: a state with eigenvalue list has entropy .
Finite POVMs and their outcome law and POVM outcome weights are probabilities: the outcome weight of in state is , and the weights form a probability vector.
Verification
The average state is diagonal in with eigenvalues , so by [F2]. Each has eigenvalues and zeros, hence ; [F1] gives .
By [F3], . Thus , and in the sum defining only with contributes, giving by [F4].
Combining steps 1.1 and 2.1 gives for the displayed orthogonal ensemble. This computation does not assert equality for a non-orthogonal ensemble.

Dependency tree · two levels
28 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
