How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite POVMs and their outcome law
Definition
Let be a nonzero finite-dimensional complex inner-product space; the pairing is linear in its first argument (Finite-dimensional vector space, and its dimension ; infinite-dimensional means having no finite basis, Real and complex inner-product spaces and their induced length). Write for its complex-linear endomorphisms (The space of linear maps with pointwise addition and scalar multiplication) and let be a finite nonempty outcome set. A finite POVM on with outcomes is a family with each nonnegative and ; after any enumeration of , these operators form the finite complete positive family of Finite positive effect family. Reordering does not alter the finite sum. The complete-family lemma A complete positive family consists of effects shows that every also has nonnegative complement , so each is an effect.
For a density operator on (a nonnegative operator of trace one, Density operator), its POVM outcome weights are
Here is the finite-dimensional endomorphism trace (The basis-independent trace of an endomorphism of a finite-dimensional vector space).
The positivity and normalization of these weights are proved in POVM outcome weights are probabilities ↗. A POVM specifies this outcome law; it does not by itself prescribe a conditional output state.
