How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
One regularized Gauss–Newton step for exponential reaction kinetics
Example
For a first-order reaction with conversion fraction at unit
time, use , true rate , exact datum
, initial rate , , ,
discrepancy factor , and budget . For
and , the datum
does not meet the initial discrepancy stopping condition. The
single update gives ; the procedure returns
this state with status discrepancy if its post-update residual is at most
, and otherwise with status budget-exhausted.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: , , , , , , , , , , and .
The Axiom of Countable Choice (): Countable Choice is assumed for the Hilbert adjoint in the assigned step.
Unanchored Levenberg–Marquardt step with explicit early stopping: The scalar step is .
The exponential is positive and satisfies : for real and .
The chain rule, in one line from Carathéodory: if is differentiable at and is differentiable at , then is differentiable at with : The derivative of a composition is the product of the outer derivative and the inner derivative.
Sums, scalar multiples, products and quotients: , , , and when : A scalar multiple has derivative equal to that scalar times the original derivative.
The natural logarithm as the inverse of the exponential function: is the inverse of the exponential for , so .
Verification
Given: The model and parameter values above.
By [F6], , and [F3] gives ; hence and . The derivative of is by its difference quotient. Therefore [F2], [F4], and [F5] give and , so .
The initial residual satisfies , while , so the discrepancy test does not stop at . Substitution into [F1] gives . Because , , so the returned rate lies in the physical rate domain .
Since the cap is and , the next check returns status discrepancy if its residual is at most ; otherwise the cap branch returns budget-exhausted. In both cases the returned state is .
Depends on
- Unanchored Levenberg–Marquardt step with explicit early stopping
- The exponential function is smooth and $(\exp)'=\exp$
- The chain rule, in one line from Carathéodory: if $g$ is differentiable at $c$ and $f$ is differentiable at $g(c)$, then $f \circ g$ is differentiable at $c$ with $(f \circ g)'(c) = f'(g(c))\,g'(c)$
- Sums, scalar multiples, products and quotients: $(f+g)'(c) = f'(c) + g'(c)$, $(\alpha f)'(c) = \alpha f'(c)$, $(fg)'(c) = f'(c)g(c) + f(c)g'(c)$, and $(f/g)'(c) = \bigl(f'(c)g(c) - f(c)g'(c)\bigr)/g(c)^{2}$ when $g(c) \ne 0$
- The exponential is positive and satisfies $\exp(-x)=1/\exp(x)$
- The natural logarithm as the inverse of the exponential function
- The Axiom of Countable Choice ($\mathrm{AC}_\omega$)

38 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
