How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Relative tensor products of bimodules over C times C

Example

Work in the braided fusion category VecC of finite-dimensional complex vector spaces, with ordinary tensor product and flip braiding. Let R=C×C with orthogonal idempotents e1,e2. For i,j∈{1,2} let Mij=C with left action through the ith coordinate and right action through the jth coordinate.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The separability-projector and relative-tensor construction of Relative tensor product gives associative composition of separable bimodules.

[F1]

Separable algebra objects and bimodules in a fusion category defines the regular R-R bimodule with multiplication actions, and balancing identifies the right action on the first factor with the left action on the second.

[F2]

Fusion and multifusion categories: A fusion category is finite semisimple, rigid, and has simple tensor unit.

[F3]

Braided monoidal category: A braiding is a natural family of invertible crossings satisfying the two hexagon identities.

[F4]

Relative tensor product gives associative composition of separable bimodules proves that the regular bimodule is the unit for relative tensor composition.

Verification

1.1F1F2F3givenalgebra

Finite-dimensional complex vector spaces form a finite semisimple category, their tensor unit C is simple, and vector-space duals give rigidity; thus they satisfy the fusion conditions in [F2]. The flip v⊗w↦w⊗v is natural and invertible, and on triples both hexagon composites perform the same adjacent transpositions to reverse the order past one tensor factor; hence it is a braiding as in [F3]. The element E=e1⊗e1+e2⊗e2 satisfies mR(E)=e1+e2=1R and rE=Er for every r∈R, so it is a separability idempotent. On Mij⊗Mkl≅C, the projector ∑s=12(res⊗les) acts by the scalar ∑sδj,sδk,s; this is 1 when j=k and 0 when j≠k. By the image description, Mij⊗RMkl≅{Mil,j=k,0,j≠k.

Applying the rule twice gives (Mij⊗RMkl)⊗RMmn≅δj,kδl,mMin≅Mij⊗R(Mkl⊗RMmn), where δu,v is 1 if u=v and 0 otherwise. The regular bimodule decomposes as R=M11⊕M22 and acts as a unit on every Mij. These explicit products verify the associativity and unit rules in this finite split-semisimple example.
