How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The finite-temperature trace entropy is continuous at occupation endpoints
Statement
For with , the map is continuous on the full domain , including matrices with eigenvalues or .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The continuous scalar extension on and Hermitian matrices .
The entropy integrand and endpoint convention are as in the finite-temperature model (Fixed-particle finite-temperature density-matrix free energy).
Ordered eigenvalues of complex Hermitian matrices change by at most the operator norm of the matrix perturbation (Ordered eigenvalues of Hermitian matrices are operator-norm Lipschitz).
The natural logarithm satisfies and for (The natural logarithm has derivative 1/x and equals the integral from 1 to x of 1/t).
For real or complex matrices, the induced operator norm is bounded by the Frobenius norm, (Spectral and Frobenius norms are unitarily invariant, are given by singular values, and satisfy the sharp rank comparison).
Proof
For , put . By [F3], , so . The other term tends to as by continuity of at . Since , the same limits hold at . Thus the stipulated endpoint values make continuous on .
By [F2], if in Frobenius norm, then every ordered eigenvalue tends to the corresponding ; indeed [F4] gives . All these eigenvalues lie in by the domain definition.
Spectral functional calculus gives and likewise for . Scalar continuity from step 1.1 makes each of the finitely many summands converge, so .
