How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Incidence curl has zero discrete divergence and gradient curl
Statement
For the incidence matrices of Oriented Maxwell cochains, masses, and the Yee grid, one has and . The conclusion holds for the full periodic complex and for the PEC mixed closure defined there.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A finite oriented cell complex and the PEC mixed-or-periodic boundary convention in Oriented Maxwell cochains, masses, and the Yee grid.
Before the PEC restriction, are the transposes of the oriented boundary maps on vertices, edges, faces, and volumes. The PEC mixed closure retains only interior electric edges and interior vertices but all faces and cells. (Oriented Maxwell cochains, masses, and the Yee grid)
For an oriented cell complex, the cellular boundary matrix is its signed incidence matrix and consecutive cellular boundaries compose to zero. (Cellular boundary is the incidence degree matrix, The cellular boundary squares to zero)
Proof
Let be the absolute oriented cellular boundary from degree to degree . By [F2], . Since and , transposition gives . For a polygonal face this is the telescoping sum of endpoint differences around its boundary, including a triangular or rectangular Yee face.
Similarly [F2] gives , hence . For a tetrahedral or cubical volume, each edge in the boundary of its oriented boundary has two occurrences with opposite induced signs. The cellular identity covers arbitrary cell attachments as well, so this argument does not restrict the claim to tetrahedra.
Periodic identification identifies faces with the prescribed orientation, so the quotient cell structure retains oriented boundary-of-boundary cancellation. For PEC, let be the absolute incidence matrices and let select interior edges and select interior vertices. The matrices are , , and . An interior vertex is incident to no boundary edge, so . Hence , while . This retains boundary-face magnetic cochains although boundary electric edge values are fixed.

Dependency tree · two levels
8 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
