How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Marked relative surgery presentations and complete moves for three-dimensional ribbon bordisms
Statement
Assume full AC. Let be any compact oriented smooth three-bordism with its fixed product collars, boundary parametrizations and a properly embedded finite colored framed ribbon graph with actual coupon morphisms and the prescribed labeled boundary ribbons. For each connected component of , fix a connected standard base with exactly that parametrized external boundary: for example the complement in of disjoint standard handlebodies, one of the prescribed genus for each boundary component. Keep these boundary handlebodies, their attaching parametrizations and their marked cap ribbons fixed. A closed component uses . Take the finite disjoint union with this specified component partition. More generally, any fixed connected compact oriented base with the same marked boundary is allowed on each component.
There is a finite framed link , off the protected boundary collar, an exterior representative of the given colored ribbon graph with all original coupons, and a specified orientation-preserving output identification retaining every boundary parametrization and collar ribbon. Here is the framed Dehn filling of the link exterior. For any two such presentations, the specified identification of their outputs is realized up to isotopy fixed on the protected collar by a finite sequence of exterior framed isotopies and the following relative moves:
- : insert or delete a split or framed unknot in an interior ball, with the actual filled-ball identification.
- : the specified framed band slide of one surgery component over another, with the full band framing and canonical local filling comparison.
- : insert or delete an arbitrary integer-framed knot and its small meridian with the disk framing zero; the induced filling identification is the identity outside its solid-torus support.
- Exterior framed colored graph isotopy and framed slides of open graph strands over the specified surgery-framed longitudes. Every original graph label, coupon morphism, attachment order, boundary ribbon and endpoint remains fixed or is transported by the recorded move map.
Thus the cumulative move map, with its transported graph, realizes the given marked decorated bordism, including its specified output identification. No hypothesis on any fundamental group is imposed. is essential in this general fixed-base scope and is not silently replaced by a split Hopf pair or by alone. All supports fix the given external collars; no unproved variable-boundary slicing move list is required. Disconnected bordisms, empty input/output surfaces, closed components, empty graphs and the empty bordism are allowed, with the fixed component partition. Any integer weight and object Lagrangians of the weighted ribbon-bordism definition are retained as part of the external data; this is a presentation and move theorem, independently of the later evaluation and anomaly formulas.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The full oriented collared and decorated data in the Statement, with full AC (The Axiom of Choice). The meanings of the fixed ribbon bordism, actual coupons, collars, boundary markings, weights and Lagrangians are Weighted Lagrangian ribbon bordisms and Oriented smooth cobordism.
Parametrized link-surgery existence for compact oriented three-manifolds supplies actual fixed-boundary link-surgery existence from the specified connected base, including the four-dimensional two-handle trace and its exact outgoing identification, componentwise.
A boundary-marked five-bordism gives a common middle two-handle trace gives finite additions from two marked two-handle traces to two descriptions of one actual common four-dimensional trace, with its entire marked three-boundary fixed. Its actual integral signature-bordism input is part of that supplier. No same-trace two-equivalence assertion is included in it.
Relative Morse handle normalization with the full vertical height fixed supplies the exact cornered face convention and adapted handle data with projection height on a fixed vertical collar. Handles of equal index can be attached on one level supplies the simultaneous disjoint attached-stage model. The actual quadratic-band and product-complement construction in Gluing handle Morse models along collars, proof steps1.2–3.1, realizes each prescribed framed attaching tube and its outgoing map; on disjoint attaching regions these local constructions run in parallel at one critical height, with the vertical product complement retained. Relative one-parameter Morse paths with finitely many elementary events joins the resulting endpoint functions with its supported finite fold/value event path. Relative descending paths with finitely many same-index passages supplies the weak descending-field movie, finite isolated equal-index passages, the birth endpoint analysis and actual elementary maps, allowing positive-drop tangencies.
Parametric index grouping preserves a relative descending path retains that field and the vertical height while ordering index heights and providing a finite transverse separated value-event list. Index-grouped descending paths give based framed handle movies proves the bounded-time based thickenings, event isolation, birth preparations and actual higher attaching-map transport.
Finite relative mixed-handle movies give marked Kirby moves converts this supplied based mixed-handle movie to finite moves with the specified cumulative outgoing map. It uses actual interior trades, tree comparisons, arbitrary replacement-arc comparisons and reversed disk-factor slides; it assumes no unrestricted four-dimensional two-equivalence theorem.
Decorated ribbon graphs lift through a marked relative surgery calculus proves exterior graph representatives and finite framed graph/core crossing slides independently of its global hypothesis. Its marked decorated lifting conclusion is conditional only on the actual marked undecorated relative calculus; that hypothesis is proved in steps 2.1–4.1 below before the lifting conclusion is used.
Proof
Given: The data in the Statement. Every comparison retains its actual incoming and outgoing maps. The word “fixed” for a boundary collar refers to its prescribed noncritical height and product coordinates, not a function constant on an open collar.
Marked surgery existence in the fixed base. On one connected component apply [F1] to the actual and with their given boundary parametrizations. Its marked closed-cap filling, interior one/three-handle trades and full framed-link consolidation give a four-dimensional two-handle trace from and a finite link with the specified outgoing identification . This does not identify three-dimensional surface handle attachments with four-dimensional link handles: the dimension-changing bridge is the actual four-bordism and disk-factor construction inside [F1]. The standard-complement base in the Statement exists by placing the standard handlebodies in disjoint balls of and keeping their explicit boundary parametrizations; its complement is connected. For a closed component use . Pull the actual ribbon graph back by the given output identification; the independent exterior-representative part of [F6] moves its finite framed spine off the filling cores and radially out of the filling tori, with its endpoint ribbons and coupons retained. This gives the stated decorated presentation and all its markings.
The common actual trace with the prescribed output map. First disregard the graph, and let be two link presentations with the specified comparison of their output three-manifolds fixed pointwise on the external collar. Form their four-dimensional two-handle traces from the same . Their entire three-boundary is , with the given output comparison used on its face and the identity on the incoming face. Thus is an actual marked common boundary, not merely a common diffeomorphism type. By [F2], first add split signed unit-framed unknots as needed for the signature correction and then finite pairs from the two ends. The resulting links describe the same actual middle trace with this entire marked boundary. Every move has its boundary-relative local identification, so the original prescribed output map is retained in the two descriptions.
A finite based movie on that trace. Construct the endpoint data from each supplied two-handle presentation of as follows. Use [F3]'s common simultaneous attached-stage model, with its disjoint actual framed attaching tubes. On each tube use its quadratic two-handle band , normalized to have the same critical height ; glue their side product coordinates to the unchanged regular complement. This is the explicit parallel version of the local band construction in [F3]: its angular coordinates and disk factor give exactly the prescribed attaching tube and its full framing. All these local bands lie off the protected vertical collar, where the complement keeps the given height. The resulting Morse function has only index2 critical points, all at . Choose its descending field standard near every quadratic origin, using the displayed quadratic flow and its regular side-height field, and patch them in the regular complement by positive descending combinations. Thus away from the critical points and the prescribed vertical product field is retained. There is no trajectory: a nonconstant descending orbit strictly lowers , while both endpoint critical values would be . Choose disjoint bumps supported in the critical blocks, equal to one near their origins, and put with distinct sufficiently small constants . On each transition annulus the compact support has a positive minimum of and a finite bound for ; choose the constants so there. Near each critical origin the bump is constant, so its Hessian and the field model are unchanged. Hence remains descending for the excellent endpoint function , with the SAME trajectories as for , and still has no same-index orbit. There is no index-increasing orbit because there are no critical points of another index. With no handles use the regular product data. The actual band gluing and unchanged flow carry the endpoint framed attaching data and outgoing map from the given presentation; changing the local critical values inserts only its recorded regular-level comparisons. Extend these endpoint pairs constantly on small parameter-end neighborhoods. Use the fixed corner/vertical face convention of [F3]. The finite generic function path and the actual weak descending-path supplier give finitely many function events and finitely many isolated equal-index trajectory events, with exact local birth models and the complete elementary outgoing maps. Apply [F4] to order index heights while keeping that field and the vertical height. Its finite height-jet construction ensures that all new same-index value crossings are finite, simple and separated from the trajectory events. Its based-movie bridge transports the full unstable thickenings to the common cuts in uniformly finite time, isolates the unique equal-index passage, uses the reversed index1 calculation for index3, and includes the necessary slides of older attachments through a cancelling birth block. All later attaching embeddings and terminal maps are carried by those actual comparisons. Hence the precise finite based mixed-handle movie required by [F5] has been proved, rather than inferred from function genericity.
Marked undecorated completeness. Apply [F5] to the movie in step 3.1. Rooted-tree collapse, dual three-handle trades, forward one-handle trades and every change of arc or flattening produce the stated finite moves, retaining their actual cumulative output map. Its four-dimensional levels may change by interior framed circle surgeries; no assertion that arbitrary diffeomorphic two-handlebodies are two-equivalent is being used. Compose with the sequences from step 2.1, reversing the sequence from the second end. The resulting finite and isotopy sequence begins at , ends at , and realizes exactly the specified output identification up to isotopy fixed on the external collar. This proves the marked undecorated calculus required in [F6], for arbitrary compact connected oriented and arbitrary fundamental-group classes.
Decorations and actual coupon data. Invoke the decorated lifting conclusion of [F6] only after step 4.1 has discharged its hypothesis. At each canonical local map it gives a finite exterior graph preparation and carries the resulting graph through that very map. The final transported graph is isotopic in the filled output to the prescribed final graph, since the cumulative output identification is the specified one. Its independent graph/core crossing argument converts that isotopy to finite exterior colored framed graph isotopies and slides over the actual surgery longitudes. All original coupons remain the same morphisms, with their attachment order, orientations, colors and complete framings; all collar ribbons and endpoints are fixed. This proves the full decorated statement. No scalar evaluation or variable-coupon naturality is substituted for graph-move completeness.
Components and external weighted data. Compactness gives finitely many connected components. Perform step 1.1, step 2.1, step 3.1, step 4.1, step 5.1 separately on the fixed matching component partition and take their finite disjoint union. Surgery and all the local moves preserve this partition. An empty bordism uses the empty link and empty move sequence; an empty incoming or outgoing surface merely removes that boundary face, while a closed component still has its nonempty fixed base . The collars used throughout are noncritical product heights, so no boundary critical-point event or reparametrization of a fixed cap has been introduced. Every external boundary handlebody, its parametrization and its marked cap ribbons remain the chosen ones. Any integer weight and object Lagrangians are carried unchanged because the theorem compares geometric presentations of the same weighted morphism; the anomaly and evaluation identities are separate consumer results. This proves every stated case.
