How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A separability element contracts the normalized categorical Hochschild complex in positive degrees
Statement
Let be an algebra object in a -linear monoidal category and an -bimodule. Suppose satisfies Set , with the Hochschild differential given by the alternating sum of the left action, adjacent multiplications, and the right action. Its normalized subcomplex consists of maps vanishing whenever any input is the unit . For every , define where denotes the left -action. Then preserves the normalized subcomplex and in every positive degree.
Proof
Given: The two separability identities and the commuting left and right -actions on . We suppress coherent associators. The formal notation denotes a morphism composite; it does not assume that objects have elements.
Write the differential explicitly as Each pair of successive faces occurs twice with opposite signs in , by associativity of multiplication and the bimodule axioms; hence . At a unit input, the two faces adjoining that input cancel, and all other faces vanish for a normalized cochain. Thus normalization defines a subcomplex. The formula preserves normalization because every original input is still an input of .
For , expansion gives The first term uses . The other expansion is Centrality of identifies the first term of the second expansion with . All remaining terms cancel in pairs, proving , including where the interior sums are empty. This identity restricts to the normalized subcomplex by the preceding step.
In degree zero the corresponding identity is , where projects onto the bimodule-invariant part. No degree-zero vanishing is asserted.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
