How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Brion's formula for the reduced Kronecker coefficients
Statement
For all partitions , the inner product being the Hall inner product extended to symmetric functions in the two alphabet variables , and the reduced Kronecker coefficient (The reduced (stable) Kronecker coefficient ).
Equivalently, introducing a third alphabet , the symmetric Cauchy-type identity for the reduced coefficients, summed over all triples of partitions and by total degree. Equivalently again, in the notation of The Jacobi–Trudi completion is compatible with the internal product, the finite Schur expansion of the polynomial .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Partitions , alphabet variables and integers , .
The element is a finite polynomial in of degree at most , and the identity of graded series holds (The Jacobi–Trudi completion is compatible with the internal product).
For every in the finite support and all sufficiently large , ; for fixed only finitely many are nonzero (Murnaghan stability for Kronecker coefficients, The reduced (stable) Kronecker coefficient , Padded Kronecker coefficient sequences).
The Cauchy identity and the reproducing kernel hold for all specializations, summed by degree (The series : product formula, Cauchy identity, adjunction and reproducing kernel).
; for these are honest Schur functions, and increasing by increases their first part by , so . Distinct admissible tails give distinct padded partitions, since deleting the first row recovers the tail (The Jacobi–Trudi completion , the operators and , and , Padded Kronecker coefficient sequences).
for partitions of a common size, and unless has that size (Kronecker coefficients and the internal tensor product).
Proof
The polynomial and its Schur coefficients. By [F1], is a finite element of of degree at most , so it has a unique finite Schur expansion with .
Identification of the coefficients. Choose large enough that (i) and , (ii) for every occurring in the finite support of and for every in the finite support of the reduced coefficients, and (iii) is at least the Murnaghan stability threshold of [F2]; this is possible by [F1] and [F2]. By [F1], [F4] and the definition of , -coefficient at , which is , a sum over honest Schur functions by (ii) with pairwise distinct labels; by [F2] and [F5], the same element is , again over honest Schur functions, with the same set of labels by (ii). Comparing the two expansions in the Schur basis of gives for every , treating outside both finite supports as zero on each side.
First form. Factor the kernel of as and expand the second factor with the Cauchy identity [F3]: . Reading off the coefficient of in gives ; combining with step 2.1 yields the displayed Brion formula after renaming the pairing variables to .
Three-alphabet form. Sum the first form against and use the reproducing kernel [F3] twice: for fixed , , where the last equality applies in each variable after truncating to each fixed output bidegree; the pairings then involve only finitely many homogeneous polynomial components. Hence by [F3], and .
Finiteness and choice. In step 2.1 the set of labels is finite by [F1] and [F2]; in step 4.1 each total degree receives finitely many triples with nonzero coefficient, because vanishes outside the finite support and the Schur expansions are homogeneous. The argument uses no choice principle: the comparably large rank is a single existential instantiation, and the expansions are finite.
