How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A bounded Euler-reaction Lie step preserves rectangles and mass balance
Statement
Choose either the no-flux TPFA system of No-flux TPFA diffusion generator or the periodic grid system of Periodic rectangular reaction-diffusion grid. Use Forward-Euler reaction followed by exact FV or periodic diffusion with a reaction-inward rectangle , an initial state in , and from A bounded forward-Euler reaction step preserves an inward rectangle. Then every component of the output state lies in . The functional is unchanged when throughout , and is nonincreasing when throughout . The diffusion substep here is exact; no positivity assertion for a forward-Euler diffusion substep is made.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: One of the two finite diffusion discretizations, an inward rectangle, a reaction field satisfying the coordinate Lipschitz hypotheses of the Euler lemma, a state in , and .
Forward-Euler reaction followed by exact FV or periodic diffusion: the procedure applies the nodewise forward-Euler reaction map and then exact specieswise diffusion.
A bounded forward-Euler reaction step preserves an inward rectangle: for , the Euler reaction map sends into itself and conserves or dissipates under the stated condition on .
Finite-volume and periodic diffusion preserve intervals and weighted mass: the exact diffusion map preserves each component interval and each species' weighted sum.
Stoichiometric conservation and dissipation functionals: for the positive weights of the discretization.
Proof
The reaction substep in [F1] is the map in [F2]. Its output lies in at every cell/node. Multiplying the nodewise conservation equality or dissipation inequality by each positive weight and summing shows that this substep preserves or decreases as claimed.
Apply the exact diffusion substep in [F1]. By [F3] it keeps every species component in its interval and preserves every species' weighted sum. Hence it preserves and leaves the mass relation from step 1.1 unchanged. These are the claimed properties of the complete split update.

16 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
