How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Smooth consistency of the diagonal-diffusion Bellman stencil
Statement
Assume the coefficients are bounded and periodic and a periodic test function is smooth with bounded derivatives , , and , and the coefficients are bounded. For the scheme of Explicit monotone diagonal-diffusion Bellman grid update, define the normalized local residual Then where and . The bound is uniform over nodes and times before the terminal step. The is a smooth-test residual estimate, not a solution-error rate.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The finite-control diagonal diffusion scheme, the coefficient bounds, and a periodic smooth test function with the stated derivative bounds.
The time update is with the derivative conventions of the algorithm (Explicit monotone diagonal-diffusion Bellman grid update).
A Taylor remainder of order is bounded by the st derivative supremum times the segment length to that power divided by (A uniform derivative bound gives a uniform Taylor remainder bound).
The continuous operator is (Periodic diagonal controlled-diffusion HJB Cauchy problem).
Proof
Applying [F2] at and cancelling the odd terms gives Applying [F2] to the one-sided difference in [F1] gives for either sign of . The coefficient bounds make these estimates uniform over the finite action and coordinate sets.
Taylor expansion in time gives Substitute the spatial estimates of step 1.1 into the update in [F1]. Since , the uniform spatial residual is bounded by the sum displayed in the statement. Combining with the time estimate gives its formula and its explicit smoothness dependence.
The mesh consistency residual tends to zero when and with bounded coefficients. It supplies the local consistency input for the half-relaxed-limit result and makes no assertion of a universal convergence rate.

11 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
