How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
No nonzero finite-dimensional Weyl modules at nonzero central character in characteristic zero
Statement
Let be a field of characteristic zero, let , and let . Then no nonzero finite-dimensional -vector space admits a unital -algebra representation of .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A field of characteristic zero, an integer , a scalar , and a nonzero finite-dimensional unital left -module .
Polynomial Weyl algebra and its central parameter: the generators satisfy .
Unital left and right modules over a ring; unqualified module means left module: the module action satisfies and .
The trace of a matrix commutator is zero: for square matrices over a commutative ring, the trace of their commutator is zero.
The trace of a square matrix over a commutative ring: the trace of a square matrix is the sum of its diagonal entries.
Coordinate columns and matrices of linear maps relative to ordered bases: the columns of the matrix of a linear map are the coordinate columns of the images of the basis vectors.
Entrywise ring-matrix operations, rectangular matrix products, identity matrices and transpose: matrix products have entries , scalar multiplication is entrywise, and has diagonal entries and off-diagonal entries .
Proof
Choose a -basis of and let and be the matrices of the actions of and . Writing and , [F5] and the product formula [F6] show that the matrices of the composite actions and are and , respectively. The scalar copy of acts through the given vector-space structure, so the module axiom [F2] and relation [F1] give , where .
By [F3], . By [F4] and [F6], , so in .
Characteristic zero makes the image of every positive integer nonzero in . Since and a field has no zero divisors, , contradicting step 2.1. Hence no such nonzero module exists.
