How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Borel Equivariant Integration Conventions for the ABBV Formula
Definition
Assume the Axiom of Choice. Let have the standard product presentation, smooth structure, and period-one basis of the upstream torus definition. Use its selected product Milnor model with the right diagonal action and . For a smooth left -manifold , define real Borel equivariant cohomology by using the quotient convention . Its coefficient ring is , where is the class corresponding to the dual period-one basis vector and each has degree .
For an integer vector , write the character as and define its degree-two class by . With the stated quotient convention, this is the Euler class of the Borel line , where acts on by . Use the complex-orientation convention for a complex line ; thus is also the first Chern class of its Borel character line. Let be the multiplicative set generated by these classes for all nontrivial characters, together with ; thus exactly for nontrivial . Write and for the fraction localizations: if for some , and ; the module structure is induced by the coefficient-ring localization. The coefficient-ring identification is used under AC: the upstream classifying-space cohomology proof invokes AC in its Künneth and coefficient arguments.
If is a compact oriented smooth -manifold without boundary of dimension and the action preserves its orientation, the Borel projection has compact oriented -dimensional fibers. Define its pushforward explicitly as follows. For put , , and ; the compatible finite Hopf bundles in the chosen Milnor model give and . Give the orientation of the complex-oriented base followed by that of . For define by the perfect-duality equation for every complementary-degree . For and , choose with and set ; set it to zero for . Here is an isomorphism in degree because it is the polynomial quotient by , with each the restricted tautological Euler class, not a newly signed hyperplane class. The construction lemma proves existence and uniqueness of the finite pairing map, independence of , base restriction compatibility, the projection formula, and compatibility with normalized right-Thom Gysin maps. In particular this map lowers degree by , has values in , and its localized extension is . For an oriented -equivariant vector bundle whose Borel-associated bundle has a normalized Thom class, define its equivariant Euler class as the pullback of that Thom class by the zero section. The Thom class is normalized to restrict on each oriented fiber pair to the positive generator of . For rank , the Thom class and Euler class are . For a complex representation line of character , this convention gives Euler class . For a fixed component of a -action on , the orientation convention is , where is its chosen equivariantly oriented normal bundle. This is the Borel convention; no identification with a Cartan, Chow, or quotient-stack cohomology model is assumed here.
