How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Infinite algebraic state and finite-region restrictions
Definition
Let be the unital quasi-local spin C*-algebra of Norm-completed quasi-local quantum spin algebra, whose C*-structure uses Countable Choice as in Quasi-local algebra completion and locality. An infinite algebraic state is a bounded complex-linear functional satisfying and for every .
For each finite region , the restriction is a finite-matrix state. By Finite matrix C-star algebra and density-state duality, every positive normalized functional on a finite matrix algebra is represented by a unique density matrix. Define its local density matrix by
where and . For , put and use the configuration-basis factorization of Local spin matrix algebras and their factor inclusions. If , define its partial trace over , , by its matrix coefficients
where and are the configuration basis vectors of and . The finite sums depend linearly on , so they define a linear map with a unique output matrix for each . Expanding both configuration-basis traces gives its pairing identity
with the common value given by
The pairing identity determines this matrix uniquely: if pairs to zero with every , taking the configuration-basis matrix units gives for every , so . The local densities are consistent when . No density operator on a globally chosen Hilbert space is part of this definition.
This agrees with the canonical state convention of States and positive functionals on a C star algebra: the finite restrictions have norm one by Finite matrix C-star algebra and density-state duality, giving on the dense local algebra and hence on its completion; evaluation at the norm-one identity gives . Conversely a canonical state has local restrictions with density matrices of trace one, since the finite norm formula and continuity on the dense local algebra imply . No global density representation is asserted.
