How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Translation-invariant finite-range spin interaction
Definition
Use the lattice , the finite-site Hilbert spaces, local matrix algebras, factor inclusions, and norm-completed local algebra of Local spin matrix algebras and their factor inclusions and Norm-completed quasi-local quantum spin algebra. Write for spatial translation by . For a finite region and its configuration basis , the bijection defined by gives a unitary by . On put .
For , the basis relabellings satisfy , since both sides send each configuration vector to . Consequently is the identity and on local observables; continuity extends the action law to .
This local map is independent of the chosen localization region: enlarging tensors both representatives with identities, and the same site relabelling gives the corresponding enlarged unitary. On each finite region it is a unitary conjugation, hence isometric and preserves products, adjoints, and identities. It therefore extends uniquely to an isometric -automorphism of the norm completion : if is local and converges to , define ; isometry makes this limit independent of the approximating sequence, and is its inverse. This construction uses the norm-completion property and the isometric local maps; it does not use the separate finite-matrix C-identity condition.
Let be a uniformly bounded finite-range interaction in the sense of Uniformly bounded finite-range quantum spin interaction, with parameters . It is translation invariant when for every finite nonempty support and every . Let contain one representative of each nonzero translation orbit, anchored so that the lexicographically least site of each representative is , using the standard coordinate lexicographic order on . The least site exists because each support is finite and nonempty; every representative contains . The list is finite: every such support has at most sites and lies in the finite cube . For finite , the free-boundary Hamiltonian is , as in the interaction definition.
When represents an energy, its norm, , and the constant have units joules. The definition is mathematical and makes no empirical identification of an interaction with a material.
