How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

A two-label pair-potential model: translation, rotation, boost and energy charges verified on the model class and on an explicit rigid-rotation motion

Physical scope

A worked check of the conservation statements of the pair on a two-label pair-potential model: for a potential depending on the labels through a C^2 function of the squared separation, the pair force is antisymmetric and central; the translation condition of the momentum theorem and the rotation condition of the angular-momentum theorem hold identically for every field direction and axis; the momentum, angular-momentum, boost and energy charges are therefore conserved along every motion of this global potential model; and an explicit rigid-rotation motion for the attractive Hooke-type potential psi(s)=c0+kappa s is verified together with its charges and a numerical instance. Here c0 has energy units and kappa has energy-per-length-squared units. All values are model values of the declared idealization; the example reports no measurement and asserts no property of any physical pair interaction.

Example

Declare a two-label model of the force branch Adopted force model: force maps, the equation of motion, additive composition of force contributions and frame covariance with N=2, masses m1,m2>0, total mass M:=m1+m2 and reduced mass μ:=m1m2/M, time window I0=R, configuration domain Q={(x1,x2)∈(R3)2:x1≠x2} (open), and let ψ:(0,∞)→R be of class C2; its argument is the squared separation of dimension ℓ2, and its values have energy dimension. Adopt the potential

U(x1,x2):=ψ(s(x)),s(x):=∣x1−x2∣2,

of dimension μℓ2τ−2, so that the model is a global potential model d≡0 of Potential presentations of a force model, potential and mechanical energy, closed versus exact force fields, local potentials and equipotential level sets. Verify:

For the translation family use a dimensionless direction and a length-valued parameter; for rotations use a dimensionless generator and a parameter in radians; for time translations use a parameter in seconds; for boosts use a dimensionless direction and a velocity-valued parameter. In the explicit potential below, c0 has energy units kg m2 s−2 and κ has units kg s−2 (energy per squared length).

  1. gradients and pair reading. For every x∈Q,

∇x1U(x)=2ψ′(s(x)) (x1−x2),∇x2U(x)=−2ψ′(s(x)) (x1−x2);

so the model invokes the external-plus-pair presentation of Restricted interaction models: pair decompositions, antisymmetry and centrality options, potential forces and the gravitational branch with Fiext=0 and a single pair force F12=−F21=−2ψ′(s)(x1−x2) that is antisymmetric and central. 2. translation. ∑i∇xiU=0 identically, so the differential condition of Translation symmetry of the model's Lagrangian and conservation of total momentum: exact hypothesis, conservation and its sharpness holds for every a∈R3; consequently P and the boost charge a⋅(tP−MX(t)) of The Galilean boost charge of the model: exact condition, uniform centre-of-mass motion, the induced motions and the boundary of the conservation law are constant along every motion and the centre of mass moves uniformly. 3. rotation. For every a∈R3, ∑i⟨a×xi,∇xiU⟩=0 identically, so the condition of Rotation symmetry of the model's Lagrangian and conservation of angular momentum about the origin holds for every axis; consequently the total angular momentum J=∑ixi×mixi′ is constant along every motion. 4. energy. U has no explicit time dependence, so the mechanical energy E=K+U is constant along every motion by Time translation and the mechanical energy of the model: conservation in the autonomous global potential branch and the sharp failure for a time-dependent potential. 5. explicit rigid-rotation motion (Hooke-type pair). Specialise to ψ(s)=c0+κs with constants c0∈R and κ>0, and put Ω:=2κ/μ, X0∈R3, e(t):=(cos⁡Ωt,sin⁡Ωt,0), r1:=(μ/m1)ρ and r2:=−(μ/m2)ρ for a constant ρ>0; X0 and ρ have length dimension and Ω has dimension τ−1. Then xi(t):=X0+rie(t) defines a motion of the model on R, and along it P≡0, J=Ωμρ2(0,0,1) and E=c0+2κρ2 are constant. 6. numerical instance. For m1=m2=1 kg, κ=1 kg s−2, ρ=1 m, c0=0 J, X0=0: μ=12, Ω=2 s−1, r1=12 m, r2=−12 m and at t=0 one has x1=(12,0,0), x2=(−12,0,0), x1′=(0,1,0), x2′=(0,−1,0) in the stated units, P=0, J=(0,0,1) kg m2 s−1 and E=2 J; also ∇x1U(0)=2κ(x1−x2)=(2,0,0) in newtons and ∇x2U(0)=(−2,0,0).

All values are model values of the declared idealization; no measurement is reported and no property of a physical pair interaction is asserted.

[F2]

Momentum, centre of mass and angular momentum (Total mass, total momentum, centre of mass, angular momentum, torque, kinetic energy, power and work of a particle model in an inertial frame): M=m1+m2 is the scalar total mass, X(t)=M−1(m1x1(t)+m2x2(t)) is the centre-of-mass curve, P=∑imixi′, J=∑ixi×mixi′, and a motion satisfies mixi′′=Fi (The associated first-order system, motions, maximal motions and the Newtonian flow of a force model).

[F5]

Cross-product algebra (The cross product in R3, The cross product is bilinear, alternating, and orthogonal to both factors): bilinearity, alternation, orthogonality of u×v to both factors, and ⟨a,u×w⟩=⟨a×u,w⟩.

[F6]

Trigonometry and the rigid-rotation calculations (Sine and cosine defined by their real power series, The derivatives of sine and cosine are cosine and minus sine, Parity and the Pythagorean identity for sine and cosine, The chain rule for total derivatives: D(g∘f)(a)=Dg(f(a))∘Df(a), The derivative and the Riemann integral of a vector-valued function: an intrinsic derivative and a componentwise integral, Intervals of R: the nine order-convex forms, nondegeneracy, and length, Dimensions and SI unit conventions of the non-relativistic classical mechanics framework): e is C∞ with time derivative e′(t)=Ω(−sin⁡Ωt,cos⁡Ωt,0), so e(t)×e′(t)=Ω(0,0,1); also ∣e(t)∣=1, e′′(t)=−Ω2e(t), and the reduced-mass identities are r1−r2=ρ, m1r1+m2r2=0, m1r12+m2r22=μρ2, and Ω2μ=2κ.

Verification

technique · direct; compute the gradients of the pair potential from the chain rule, verify the invariance sums by cross-product algebra, check the rigid-rotation curve against the equations of motion and evaluate all charges symbolically and numerically
1.1F1F4algebra

Clause 1: writing s(x)=∣x1−x2∣2=(x1−x2)⋅(x1−x2), the chain rule gives ∇x1s=2(x1−x2) and ∇x2s=−2(x1−x2); composing with ψ′ gives the displayed gradients, and F12:=−∇x1U=−2ψ′(s)(x1−x2)=−F21 is antisymmetric and parallel to x1−x2 because x1≠x2 on Q.

1.2F1F3

Clause 4: ∂tU≡0 because U does not depend on t, and d≡0; hence the energy clause of [F3] gives that E=K+U is constant along every motion.

1.3F1F2F4F6algebra

Clause 5, the rigid-rotation curve is a motion: with xi(t)=X0+rie(t) one has x1−x2=(r1−r2)e(t)=ρ e(t), so s=ρ2 is constant and, for ψ(s)=c0+κs, F1=−2ψ′(ρ2)ρ e(t)=−2κρ e(t) and F2=2κρ e(t). Also xi′′=−Ω2rie(t). For label 1, m1x1′′=−m1Ω2(μ/m1)ρe=−μΩ2ρe=−2κρe=F1; for label 2, m2x2′′=m2Ω2(μ/m2)ρe=μΩ2ρe=2κρe=F2. Both equations of motion hold on R because Ω2μ=2κ.

2.1F1F3step 1.1algebra

Clause 2: by step 1.1, ∑i∇xiU=2ψ′(s)(x1−x2)−2ψ′(s)(x1−x2)=0 for every x∈Q, which is the translation-invariance condition of [F3] for every a; hence clause 5 of Translation symmetry of the model's Lagrangian and conservation of total momentum: exact hypothesis, conservation and its sharpness gives that P is constant along every motion, clause 2 of The Galilean boost charge of the model: exact condition, uniform centre-of-mass motion, the induced motions and the boundary of the conservation law gives the same for a⋅(tP−MX(t)), and clause 3 of that item gives the uniform motion of the centre of mass.

2.2F3F5step 1.1algebra

Clause 3: for every a and x, using [F5] and step 1.1, ∑i⟨a×xi,∇xiU⟩=2ψ′(s)(⟨a×x1,x1−x2⟩−⟨a×x2,x1−x2⟩)=2ψ′(s)⟨a×(x1−x2),x1−x2⟩=0, because the cross product is orthogonal to its second factor by [F5]; this is the condition of Rotation symmetry of the model's Lagrangian and conservation of angular momentum about the origin for every axis a, so J is constant along every motion.

2.3F2F5F6step 1.3algebra

Clause 5, the charges: along the motion of step 1.3, xi′=rie′ and therefore P=∑imirie′=e′∑imiri=0 because m1r1+m2r2=0; the angular momentum is J=∑imi(X0+rie)×(rie′)=X0×(e′∑imiri)+(∑imiri2)(e×e′)=Ωμρ2(0,0,1), constant because e×e′=Ω(0,0,1); the energy is E=12(∑imiri2)Ω2+c0+κρ2=12μρ2Ω2+c0+κρ2=c0+2κρ2, because Ω2μ=2κ by step 1.3; and the boost charge is a⋅(tP−MX(t))=−Ma⋅X0, constant, with dimension μℓ.

3.1step 1.1step 2.3F6algebra

Clause 6, numerical instance: with m1=m2=1 kg, κ=1 kg s−2, ρ=1 m and c0=0 J one has μ=12 kg and Ω=2κ/μ=4=2 s−1, r1=12 m, r2=−12 m, so x1=(12,0,0) m, x2=(−12,0,0) m and x1′=(0,12Ω,0)=(0,1,0) m s−1, x2′=(0,−1,0) m s−1 at t=0; then P=(0,0,0), J=Ωμρ2(0,0,1)=(0,0,1) kg m2 s−1 and E=c0+2κρ2=2 J, while ∇x1U(0)=2κ(x1−x2)=(2,0,0) N and ∇x2U(0)=(−2,0,0) N, so F1=(−2,0,0) N and F2=(2,0,0) N as required.

4.1step 1.1step 1.2step 1.3step 2.3step 3.1∎

Clauses 1, 2, 3 and 4 are steps 1.1, 2.1, 2.2 and 1.2, and clause 5 with its numerical instance is steps 1.3, 2.3 and 3.1; the example exhibits a pair-potential model on which all four charges of this page are available and verifies them on an explicit motion; it reports no measurement.
