How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Flat circle connection: holonomy and gauge triviality
Example
Assume for the smooth principal-connection and gauge-action convention. Let have the product smooth structure and flat Lorentzian metric , where are length coordinates measured in metres, is a length, and is dimensionless modulo . On each angular chart, is a length coordinate and , so all four coordinates in this chart are metre-valued. In the adopted Lorentzian length-coordinate convention, write , where is measured in seconds and is only a coordinate unit-conversion scale in ; no numerical measured value or physical role for is asserted. Give time orientation and product orientation . Let be the global real angular one-form on the base circle, normalized by , and let have projection and right action . On the fibre let . For a dimensionless real parameter , the normalized connection has zero curvature. For the fixed normalization in webers, its physical local potential is ; in the length coordinate its component is in . For the positive base loop , , define principal holonomy as the fibre multiplier of the horizontal lift; it is . The inverse Wilson-loop convention gives . Under the pushforward action on horizontal distributions, this connection is gauge-equivalent to exactly when . The circle is an ideal topological factor of a smooth background; no monopole, charge quantization, or empirical claim is made.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: The product base and trivial principal circle bundle in the statement, the normalized connection convention, and the pushforward action on horizontal distributions.
Sphere winding, nonexact curvature and flat holonomy: on the normalized connection has zero curvature and principal horizontal-lift holonomy ; it is gauge-trivial exactly when . Its proof records the local phase and winding argument.
Fixed-topology affine sector of normalized circle connections: normalized connections on the same fixed bundle and atlas differ by a global one-form, and the adopted pushforward action sends a local representative to for .
Gauge group of a smooth principal bundle: a gauge transformation is a smooth diffeomorphism over the identity satisfying .
Gauge transformations act on principal connections and carry curvature: the adopted action sends horizontal distribution to .
Local potentials and smooth circle-bundle connection data: has smooth multiplication and inversion, is the real angular normalization, and converts normalized to physical potential units.
, and exactly when : for real exactly when .
Lorentzian exterior calculus and Hodge star: and obeys the graded product rule; in each local phase chart .
Oriented Lorentzian fields, observers and coordinate conventions: in a length-coordinate chart all four coordinate values have units of length and the temporal coordinate is , with in seconds and a unit-conversion scale in ; this bookkeeping convention assigns no measured value or physical role to .
The Axiom of Countable Choice (): is the background assumption for the inherited smooth tangent and principal-connection convention; the explicit product connection and the finite holonomy calculation make no additional selections.
Verification
In each angular chart , so by [F7] locally and therefore globally; the normalized connection form is the product-bundle connection of [F1], and its curvature is . The temporal length coordinate is under [F8], with only the stated unit-conversion scale. In the length coordinate , its base component is with units , while the physical potential component has units .
Along the loop parameterized by , write the fibre coordinate as . The horizontality equation is , so and the principal holonomy is . The inverse Wilson variable is .
Every gauge transformation of the product bundle has the form : set and use right equivariance in [F3] on . The pushforward convention in [F4] is the one used in [F2], so the local normalized potential changes by .
If , the map is single-valued and smooth because multiplication and inversion on are smooth. The bundle map is a smooth gauge transformation with smooth inverse ; no invertibility of the base map is required. On each phase chart , the phase rule in [F5] gives ; thus the pushforward gauge action in [F2] sends to zero. Conversely, if a gauge transformation sends to the trivial connection, it maps a horizontal lift to a horizontal lift and preserves its fibre multiplier: if a lifted loop ends at , its gauge image ends at by equivariance. The trivial connection has multiplier , so ; [F6] implies . Thus gauge triviality is equivalent to integrality, while every nonintegral gives a flat connection with nontrivial holonomy.
Remarks
The plus sign is the inverse Wilson-loop convention used in the design. With the fixed total-space connection form , horizontal parallel transport has the inverse multiplier . The two conventions agree on whether the phase is trivial and on the integer gauge-triviality criterion.
