How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Anisotropic magnetic stress and null energy-current vector
Example
Work pointwise on Minkowski space with length coordinates , signature , orientation , and future time-orientation . In SI bookkeeping assign and . First take , with . Then take , with . These are explicit field-component calculations; no coupled Einstein solution is asserted.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The Maxwell tensor and observer conventions of Smooth formal matter, EM tensors and observer quantities, with .
Smooth formal matter, EM tensors and observer quantities: and , in an oriented orthonormal frame.
EM, dust and perfect-fluid energy inequalities: is trace-free and satisfies DEC; its observer current is .
The observer rest-space decomposition and the spatial projection: the orthogonal complement of a future timelike vector in a Lorentzian four-space is three-dimensional and has positive-definite metric.
Smooth formal matter, EM tensors and observer quantities: a perfect-fluid tensor has for a future timelike with and real .
and in the two respective examples. All quantities are pointwise mathematical components.
Verification
For the pure magnetic case, the only independent nonzero component is , so . Substitution in [F1] gives and in the order , with all off-diagonal entries zero. The rest observer has current , which is timelike.
The mixed tensor is , so its two distinct eigenvalues each have eigenspace dimension two because . For a perfect fluid, [F4] gives . This map sends the timelike vector to and every vector orthogonal to to times that vector; is three-dimensional by [F3] applied to . If , the map is the scalar map and all four eigenvalues coincide; otherwise its eigenvalue multiplicities are one and three. The magnetic tensor has neither spectrum, so it cannot be a perfect-fluid tensor in any observer frame.
For the crossed-field case, and are the only independent nonzero components. They give and . Direct substitution yields and all other components zero. Therefore for , whose norm is and whose time component is positive. The DEC current is future null, so its causal bound is saturated.
Remarks
The first tensor is anisotropic even though its rest-frame spatial energy-current component vanishes. In the crossed-field case, the observer energy-current vector is future null, while the physical SI energy-flux vector is the nonzero spatial vector with magnitude . These are exact algebraic consequences of the displayed tensors and do not describe measured fields.
