How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Excluded interior flux is not a global source law
An ideal source-free vacuum Maxwell field on the punctured spatial region R^3 minus the origin with a specified nonzero flux parameter. The example gives no full-space magnetic-charge law, no empirical observation, and no smooth source-free extension through the excluded point.
Example
Let be a nonempty open time interval and in the fixed SI laboratory chart. Fix a nonzero flux parameter with units Wb and a length . Put and define the smooth static fields and on . Set and total charge and current densities and there. Let be the tetrahedron with vertices , , , and . Label these vertices in the displayed order. For , let be the affine map with ordered vertices , and put for . Set . Then is a finite outward-oriented smooth singular 2-cycle on the sphere of radius . For each , write for its image in the time slice under . The exterior field satisfies the source-free vacuum Maxwell equations and has cycle flux , so its field-strength 2-form has no global potential on . This exterior flux does not imply a magnetic charge in the full-space Maxwell model: any smooth full-space divergence-free extension agreeing on the sphere of radius would have zero flux there, a contradiction.

Change of variables for an injective map on a compact Jordan set gives the signed pullback integral under an affine parameter transposition: its determinant is , so the integral of a pulled-back 2-form changes sign.
Changing a bounded integrand on a content-zero set does not change its Riemann integral identifies integrals of bounded functions differing only on a content-zero set. Verification
Given: The setup and cycle in the Example, with Phi nonzero.
Put . On , is the smooth static magnetic 2-form, where . By [F4], . By [F5], , so their sum is . Also, , so by [F6]. With , , and , all four adopted vacuum Maxwell equations hold on ; [F2] therefore gives and there.
The origin is the barycenter of the four tetrahedron vertices, hence lies strictly inside , and each face lies in a plane with outward unit normal and . Each face avoids the origin, so is smooth on a neighborhood of it. Convexity and in the interior imply each ray from meets the boundary of once; therefore maps the four face interiors bijectively onto disjoint open patches of the radius- sphere whose closures cover that sphere. On a face patch, the inverse radial map is , which is smooth because there; thus each face restriction is a diffeomorphism. For face tangent vectors in the outward orientation, put . Then and , because has positive normal component . The ordered tetrahedron has determinant , so its positive outward boundary has coefficients on the ordered faces . The radial map preserves their induced outward orientations by the preceding calculation. For , the edge omitting occurs with coefficient from face and from face . Both edge maps list the two surviving vertices in the same order, so their radial composites are identical maps with opposite coefficients. Thus [F3] gives .
The scaling map , , satisfies , since the numerator and denominator in both scale by . For each , use if , and precompose it with the affine transposition of if . The resulting four parametrizations are orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms on the open simplex interiors onto the disjoint patches of step 1.2, with closures covering the compact sphere. They extend smoothly near the closed parameter simplex into the sphere because their affine faces avoid the origin. By [F11], transposition negates the form integral, so each new integral is . By [F12] these compact parameter integrals equal the interior integrals in [F8]. Hence [F8] applies, and the compact oriented surface integral is the one evaluated in [F7]. Hence , so the cycle flux of is for every .
The embedded cycle is a finite smooth singular 2-cycle in . Its inclusion pullback of is , which is smooth and closed on by step 1.1 and has nonzero period by step 2.1. Therefore is a smooth closed 2-form on with nonzero period on . Applying [F9] shows that no globally defined smooth 1-form on satisfies .
Suppose a smooth divergence-free magnetic field on agreed with on . Its spatial 2-form would be smooth and closed by [F4], and would agree with on . Since is star-shaped, [F10] gives for a global smooth 1-form . Stokes and from step 1.2 then give , while step 2.1 gives . This contradiction excludes a smooth divergence-free full-space extension; it does not turn the exterior field into a magnetic-charge source law.
