How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

A point-supported coherent quotient on a polydisc

Physical scope

A local complex analytic sheaf example; no physical model or empirical claim is made.

Example

Assume the full Axiom of Choice, let N≥1, and on a neighborhood U of 0∈CN define the coherent quotient QU=OU/(z1,…,zN)OU. Let W be a coordinate polydisc supplied by the local coherent-acyclicity theorem for QU. For any nonempty coordinate polydisc D⊆W containing 0, set Q=OD/(z1,…,zN)OD. Then Q is coherent and the evaluation morphism identifies it with the skyscraper sheaf i∗C at i:{0}↪D. Consequently Γ(D,Q)≅C,Hq(D,Q)=0(q>0).

Facts & Assumptions

Given: Full AC, a polydisc D⊆W⊂CN with N≥1 and 0∈D, and the ideal sheaf generated by the coordinate functions.

[A1]

The Axiom of Choice: full AC is assumed, as in the local coherent-acyclicity theorem.

[F1]

Coherent module sheaves on complex manifolds: a coherent module is locally of finite type and has locally finite-type kernels for maps from finite-rank free modules.

[F2]

Oka coherence and local coherent free resolutions: under full AC, OD is coherent, finite-rank free analytic modules are coherent, and cokernels of morphisms of coherent analytic modules are coherent.

[F3]

Holomorphic functions on an open subset of Cm defines holomorphicity by complex differentiability at every point; Holomorphic functions of several variables are smooth and their complex derivatives are holomorphic shows that a holomorphic representative is continuous and separately holomorphic. Hence A continuous separately holomorphic function is the sum of an absolutely convergent power series with Cauchy-integral coefficients on every smaller polydisc applies and gives its convergent multivariable power series on a smaller polydisc.

[F4]

A skyscraper sheaf of abelian groups at a point: the skyscraper sheaf i∗C has sections C on opens containing 0 and zero on opens not containing 0; its stalk is C at 0 and zero away from 0.

[F5]

A morphism of sheaves is an isomorphism exactly when it is an isomorphism on every stalk: a morphism of sheaves is an isomorphism if its induced map on every stalk is an isomorphism.

[F6]

Local coherent acyclicity on sufficiently small polydiscs: choose W for the particular coherent module QU of this example. Then Hq(D,QU∣D)=0 for q>0 on every nonempty coordinate polydisc D⊆W. This choice of W depends on QU.

Proof

1.1A1F2F4givenconstruct

For each D⊆W, restriction of QU is the cokernel of the finite free map OD⊕N→OD given by (a1,…,aN)↦∑jajzj. Coherence of OD and closure under cokernels in [F2] make Q coherent. Define evaluation OD→i∗C by f↦f(0) on opens containing 0 and by the unique zero section on opens disjoint from 0. Each zj maps to zero, so the morphism factors through Q.

1.2F3givenalgebra

On the stalk at 0, evaluation OD,0→C is surjective. Its kernel consists exactly of germs with zero constant coefficient. By [F3], write such a germ as f(z)=∑α≠0cαzα on a smaller polydisc. Assign each multi-index to its least j with αj>0 and set gj(z)=∑α: j=min⁡{k:αk>0}cαzα−ej. These subseries converge on every still smaller polydisc, and termwise regrouping gives f=∑j=1Nzjgj. Thus the kernel is precisely (z1,…,zN)OD,0, and the quotient stalk maps isomorphically to C.

2.1F4F5step 1.2given

If y∈D and y≠0, choose j with yj≠0. The germ of zj is a unit at y, so the quotient stalk Qy is zero; [F4] says the target stalk is also zero. At 0, step 1.2 gives an isomorphism on stalks. Hence [F5] makes the induced morphism Q→i∗C an isomorphism.

3.1F1F2F4F6step 1.1step 2.1∎

By [F4], Γ(D,i∗C)=C, so step 2.1 gives Γ(D,Q)≅C. By step 1.1, Q=QU∣D; apply [F6] with the W chosen for QU to obtain Hq(D,Q)=0 for every q>0.
