How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A hard core stabilizes an attractive power tail
Example
Fix an integer and constants . Set and define the even radial pair potential It has a hard core and a nonzero attractive power tail.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The model conventions of Stable power-tempered pair-potential model, an integer, and .
Stable power-tempered pair-potential model defines the pair energy , stability, Euclidean norm, and power-tempering bound.
Real powers for positive bases, with the zero-base positive-exponent convention and Continuity and derivatives of positive-base real powers give continuity of positive-base real powers and for . The The mean value theorem, as the case of Cauchy's: for continuous on with and differentiable on there is with therefore makes decreasing on .
The integers as equivalence classes of pairs of naturals: the number of lattice points with is , by subtracting the integer box of radius from the box of radius .
Series in the nonnegative extended real line defines the nonnegative series by its partial sums, and The p-series for a real exponent p converges exactly when p is greater than one gives because .
Verification
From the coordinate formula in [F1], is continuous: each coordinate square is continuous by , and for , , since, if , , with the other case symmetric. Thus the square-root composition is continuous, including at . The map is continuous on by [F2]. The regions and are Borel, so the piecewise potential is Borel; radiality makes it even. For , , so it is power-tempered with and .
Put . For a fixed particle , the half-open cubes , , partition . Their Euclidean diameters are at most . The example's definition makes every pair at distance less than forbidden, so centers in a finite-energy configuration are separated by at least . Thus each cube contains at most one center and contains no center other than . The cells in max-norm shell number by [F3]. For , factor the difference of powers: since .
A neighbor of in shell has distance at least and contributes at most in absolute value; there are such cells. For , choose a coordinate with . If , every point of differs from in coordinate by at least ; if , the absolute difference is greater than . Hence every point of is at Euclidean distance at least from . By [F2], each such neighbor contributes at most . The shell count in step 1.2 therefore bounds its total contribution by
For , , so the last bound is at most . Summing over shells and using [F4], every fixed particle satisfies
For a finite-energy configuration, every pair term is negative and by step 3.1. A configuration containing a forbidden pair has and also satisfies the lower bound. Hence the potential is stable with . Together with step 1.1, this proves membership in the stated stable power-tempered class.
Remarks
The negative algebraic tail is genuinely attractive at every allowed separation; the hard core and lattice-shell summation give a uniform stability constant. The example does not say that every attractive power tail is stable. The A-page theorem remains a free-cube grand-pressure result and gives no canonical fixed-density or arbitrary-boundary conclusion.
