How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Positive C_0(X) functionals have finite regular representing measures
Statement
Assume Dependent Choice (The axiom of dependent choice: a relation in which every element is related to something admits an -indexed chain). Let be LCH and let be bounded and positive. There is a unique finite regular Borel measure such that for all , and .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Dependent Choice and bounded and positive on .
Positive functionals on have unique Radon representing measures. (Positive functionals on C_c(X) are integration against a Radon measure, Assuming Dependent Choice, uniqueness of the RMK representing measure among Radon measures)
Under Dependent Choice, compact sets inside open sets have continuous compactly supported cutoffs. (LCH Urysohn cutoff)
Proof
Restrict to and apply [L1], obtaining a Radon measure . For every compact , [L2] with gives a cutoff equal to on . Thus . Inner regularity on the open set therefore yields . This is where Dependent Choice enters.
Conversely, first for . To see uniform density directly, for and the set is compact; [L2] with gives equal to one on and between zero and one, so . Since is bounded and is finite, both sides extend continuously to , giving the representation and . Thus equality holds.
Let be Borel and . Open inner regularity of gives a compact with . Outer regularity of gives an open with . Then is compact and contained in , while and , using finiteness of . Thus ; letting proves compact inner regularity for every Borel . Uniqueness follows from [L1].
