How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Nilpotence and contraction of nonminimal doublets
Statement
The Abelian jet derivation defined in the local BRST algebra satisfies . More generally, take any finite set of jet doublets with , , , and , and suppose the transformations of all other generators are independent of these doublets. Define the doublet-number operator and the odd homotopy , using left graded derivatives. Then and . Consequently the inclusion of the doublet-independent polynomial subalgebra induces an isomorphism on polynomial BRST cohomology. In particular, if and for a positive integer , then .
For a ghost-number grading, write this cohomology as

For one fixed jet index, the arrows record the differential on the pair: and . The zero at the right is the zero element. The proof verifies nilpotence and the homotopy identity algebraically; the diagram is only a record of the generator maps.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The algebra and odd graded derivation in Abelian local jet BRST differential.
Abelian local jet BRST differential: is a graded-commutative finite-jet polynomial algebra; is odd, raises ghost number by one, obeys the graded Leibniz rule, and commutes with spacetime derivatives. Its generator values are , , , , and .
For a finite chosen family of additional jet pairs, and , with opposite parity and ghost number increased by one, and the -transformations of all other generators do not involve or .
Proof
Given: [F1] and [A1].
On the gauge and nonminimal generators, , , , and . Commutation of with spacetime derivatives gives the same equality on every jet of these generators.
Since is odd in a graded-commutative algebra over , and hence . The graded Leibniz rule therefore gives
The square of an odd derivation is an even derivation: the two mixed terms in cancel by the graded Leibniz rule. It vanishes on every generator and every jet by steps 1.1–1.2, so it vanishes on each finite polynomial in .
Now by step 2.1, so is a differential. It preserves the number of the selected doublet variables: its action on the other generators is independent of them, and each term replaces one by one . Thus . On each pair, , , , and , so and . Both and are even derivations and vanish on the doublet-independent generators; equality on generators proves on the polynomial algebra.
Let be -closed and homogeneous of doublet number . Since , the homogeneous components of any -closed polynomial are separately -closed. Applying to gives because ; division by the nonzero integer yields .
Every polynomial has a finite decomposition . For an -closed , step 4.1 makes every with exact, while is closed by . Therefore every extended cohomology class has a representative in the doublet-independent subalgebra.
If a doublet-independent closed polynomial is in the extended algebra, take the doublet-number-zero component of the finite decomposition of . Because preserves , the number-zero component of is . Thus a class from the minimal subalgebra becomes exact in the extension only if it was already exact there, proving injectivity as well as the surjectivity in step 5.1.
