How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Round coupled Penrose correction gives the R-over-six operator

Statement

Assume full AC and the analytic sheaf/Dolbeault comparison. Let π:Z=CP3→S4 be the incidence fibration, let E→S4 be a smooth finite-rank Hermitian bundle, and let A be a smooth unitary connection on E. Let F→Z be a finite-rank holomorphic bundle smoothly isometrically identified with π∗E, whose Dolbeault operator is the ordinary vertical operator and ∇A on the projected complex alpha-planes, as in the injective-edge lemma. On the finite chart λ1≠0, these alpha-planes are spanned by the projections of H1=∂zˉ1−t∂z2 and H2=∂zˉ2+t∂z1, where t=λ2/λ1; the second chart covers t=∞. Let OZ(−2) be the tensor square of the tautological line bundle. The edge lemma's fibre-harmonic projection is a well-defined injective map PA:H1(Z,F⊗OZ(−2))→Γ(S4,E). Write FA=∇A2. For real two-forms η,ζ, the Hodge star ∗g is characterized by η∧∗gζ=⟨η,ζ⟩g dvolg for the stated unit round metric and positive orientation; it acts complex-linearly on the form factor of FA. Set FA+=(FA+∗gFA)/2 and assume FA+=0. For a class ξ∈H1(Z,F⊗OZ(−2)), let s=PA(ξ). The unique correction of sσ that removes the horizontal-vertical component of its Dolbeault differential has remaining component (∇A∗∇A+2)s in a nonvanishing local frame. Consequently

PA(H1(Z,F⊗OZ(−2)))⊆ker⁡(∇A∗∇A+2).

The scalar term is R/6 for the specified unit round metric, where R=12.

For the global metric splitting, the mixed component of ∂ˉ(sσ) is a vertical degree-one form with coefficient O(−1)⊕2⊗Ex. On a fibre it has a unique vertical primitive by [F4]. The fixed-fibre B=∂ˉ∗G construction and smooth-parameter difference-quotient argument in [F2], with the estimates [F5], make that primitive smooth over the base. The same fibrewise uniqueness makes it agree across frame and chart changes. Denote the horizontal correction by ϕ(s); then ψ(s)=sσ+ϕ(s) has zero mixed differential. If s is the image of a closed representative α, [F2]'s decomposition and closedness say that its horizontal remainder solves this same mixed equation. The difference is fibrewise holomorphic in O(−1)⊕2⊗Ex, hence zero by [F4]. Thus ψ(s)=α−∂ˉFγ is closed for a class image. The differential can still have a horizontal degree-two component for arbitrary s; the curvature component of the metric splitting is retained.

Compute that residual in the simpler constant-t local splitting, without transplanting metric-frame coefficient formulas. Let Dj=Dzj, Djˉ=Dzˉj be the covariant derivatives in a local unitary frame of E and set u=s/a. The holomorphic tautological frame e is killed by the scalar ∂ˉ. Let θ1,θ2 be the (0,1) covectors dual to H1,H2 and vanishing on ∂tˉ. These three vector fields commute, so scalar Dolbeault differentiation is evaluated by them without bracket terms. The form with the prescribed vertical part and zero mixed differential is ψloc(s)=e(cuq2dtˉ+h1θ1+h2θ2),h1=cq(tˉD1ˉu+D2u),h2=cq(tˉD2ˉu−D1u). Indeed ∂tˉ(tˉ/q)=q−2 and ∂tˉ(1/q)=−tq−2, so ∂tˉhi equals the corresponding DHi(cu/q2) exactly. The factor u=s/(1+r2) is essential: it is the integral-normalized harmonic coefficient from [F2], not an adjustable conformal ansatz.

These local forms are regular on the complete projective fibre. For w=1/t, the horizontal vectors are H~i=wHi, θ~i=w−1θi, and e~=w2e. Thus the new horizontal coefficients are h~i=thi. They become c(D1ˉu+wˉD2u)/(1+∣w∣2) and c(D2ˉu−wˉD1u)/(1+∣w∣2), both smooth. The vertical coefficient changes to −cu dwˉ/(1+∣w∣2)2 in frame e~, also smooth. The sign is the canonical-coordinate transition, not a change of harmonic normalization. Therefore ψloc exists over every entire fibre above this base chart. Its difference from the intrinsic form of step 1.1 has zero vertical part and zero mixed differential. By [F4] that difference is zero. This proves that the coordinate calculation computes the actual global correction, despite using a different horizontal splitting for its displayed coefficients.

Put S=D1ˉD1+D2ˉD2 and T=D1D1ˉ+D2D2ˉ. Directly evaluating the remaining differential on H1,H2 gives qc∂ˉFψloc(H1,H2)/e=tˉF1ˉ2ˉu−tF12u−Su−∣t∣2Tu. Here, for example, DH1h2=cq−1(tˉD1ˉD2ˉ−D1ˉD1−ttˉD2D2ˉ+tD2D1)u, and subtracting DH2h1 gives precisely the displayed expression. By [F3], T−S=F11ˉ+F22ˉ=0 and the first two terms vanish. Since Dj=(D2j−2−iD2j−1)/2 and Djˉ=(D2j−2+iD2j−1)/2, S+T=12∑μ=03Dμ2 and hence S=T=14∑μDμ2. The residual is therefore exactly −c∑μDμ2(s/a)/4 in the nonvanishing local coefficient frame eθ1∧θ2. No uncomputed curvature cancellation or generic Penrose-operator theorem is used.

For g=Ω2δ in four dimensions, integration against its volume Ω4dx and the unitary connection gives ∇A∗∇As=−Ω−4∑μDμ(Ω2Dμs)=−Ω−2∑μDμ2s−2Ω−3∑μ(∂μΩ)Dμs. With Ω=2/a, differentiation gives ∂μΩ=−4xμ/a2 and ∑μ∂μ2Ω=−16/a3=−2Ω3. The product rule now proves, for this very connection, Ω−3[−∑μDμ2(Ωs)]=(∇A∗∇A+2)s. Since s/a=Ωs/2, step 4.1 is ∂ˉFψ(s)=τ(∇A∗∇A+2)s,τ=cΩ38 eθ1∧θ2. The factor τ is nonzero on the local chart. The zeroth-order coefficient is derived by ΔΩ=−2Ω3; it is not inferred from uniqueness. In particular a constant scalar with flat connection gives residual 2c/a3, agreeing with the displayed +2. By [F6] this is R/6.

The local expression equals the intrinsically constructed differential by step 3.1. The same construction and calculation apply in any stereographic chart with the unit round metric. Thus it patches smoothly across the base overlap and infinity; a chartwise solution satisfies the invariant operator equation globally. For the class image s, the residual vanishes by step 1.1, and the nonzero frame in step 5.1 gives (∇A∗∇A+2)s=0. Gauge changes preserve the fibre normalization and transport the unique mixed correction, while Dμ and the final operator conjugate by the same unitary frame change. On the dual, FA∨=−FAT remains ASD; the identical construction applies. More generally a connection-preserving smooth bundle map commutes with the componentwise vertical projection and inverse, and transports the unique mixed correction; thus the edge and residual construction are natural for such maps, including direct sums. Nothing used irreducibility, absence of parallel sections or nonzero curvature.

Remarks

Rawnsley’s Proposition 5 on printed p. 49 constructs the unique horizontal correction, and Proposition 6 on that page states D′′ψ(s)=π∗[(D∗D+2)s]⊗τ. Section 3 gives the correction formula in Eq. (14), printed p. 55, and derives the adjoint/operator identity on pp. 55–56. The statement R=12 and conversion to R/6 appear on p. 49. These passages concern the coupled connection. The frames, fibre normalization, orientation and coefficient used in the proof above are fixed by its local suppliers and explicit calculation; no termwise identification of its chart splitting with Rawnsley’s metric splitting is assumed.
