How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Constant flat summands of positive real monads
Statement
Let
be a locally split linear monad on with locally free middle cohomology . Suppose a nondegenerate Hermitian form on , linear in the first variable, satisfies for . Assume , for every , and . Define and , where and . If the induced Hermitian form on is positive definite for every -invariant real line , with line form the constant value from the preceding first-order real-structure definition, then , is positive definite, and is an -orthogonal decomposition. The monad and its pairing split as the constant summand plus the reduced monad ; the reduced cohomology has no global sections and remains positive on every real line. The conclusion includes , when and .

Proof
Given: The hypotheses and the definitions of and in the Statement.
Let . The locally split sequence and the vanishings [F1], together with [F4], give an isomorphism . Since and , every global section of is a constant vector . Its image in is a global section exactly when for every , equivalently for every coefficient. Hence .
If , then for all . By [F2], , so for every and ; since is bijective, . Conversely, if , then for every , hence and . Thus , and nondegeneracy of gives .
For a real line , a constant vector defines a section of . If that section is zero, exactness of and force . Hence is injective. Positivity of the given section pairing implies for every nonzero . Therefore is nondegenerate and orthogonally.
Every coefficient image of lies in by definition, and every coefficient of kills by definition. Thus the complex is the direct sum of and the displayed reduced monad on . The induced cohomology splitting is and is orthogonal for . On each real line, the original section form is positive definite and the summand is a positive orthogonal subspace by step 2.1; its orthogonal complement, the section space of , is therefore positive definite. Since by step 1.1, the direct sum decomposition implies . If , then , so and , which gives the stated boundary case.
