How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Isotropic eddy viscosity and unresolved energy model
Adopted three-dimensional isotropic stress-form closure for smooth, periodic, constant-density incompressible Newtonian large-eddy models using the stated positive convolution filter. The nonnegative specific unresolved energy and kinematic eddy-viscosity fields are model inputs; no coefficient law, empirical validation, universal applicability, or equality with the exact filtered covariance is asserted.
Postulate
Assume the Axiom of Countable Choice for the normalized periodic torus convention. Let be an open time interval, let m, and let have volume measure on a period cell and normalized measure . Coordinates are measured in metres and time in seconds. All spacetime fields below use the ordered domain and evaluation ; for a time-indexed spatial field , write . Let be smooth, dimensionless, supported in a compact subset of , and satisfy . For , define
The kernel has units m and filtering preserves the units of .
The physical base model is the smooth, unforced, constant-density incompressible Newtonian branch: kg m and dynamic viscosity Pa s are constant, is periodic with and velocity units m s, and the pressure multiplier is a periodic scalar field in Pa. Let be the identity matrix and set ; the dynamic Cauchy stress is , and m s. The pressure per unit mass in the filtered equation is the filtered scalar field in m s, where , and denotes its spatial gradient. The isotropic modeled term remains in below; it is not absorbed into .
For the filtered velocity , define its rate-of-strain tensor by
The matrix has units s. Use the Frobenius contraction for real matrices.
Adopt the following large-eddy simulation (LES) stress-form closure. A closure here means a specified modeled stress substituted for the exact filtered covariance in the resolved momentum equation. Let be prescribed model fields, where represents specific unresolved kinetic energy in m s and is kinematic eddy viscosity in m s. The modeled specific subfilter stress and its modeled transfer are
The closed filtered momentum equation uses the sign convention
Both terms in have units m s, and has units m s. This is an adopted constitutive form, not a derivation of a physical law: and must be supplied as model inputs or by separate model equations. The prescription does not assert that equals the exact covariance , that the modeled tensor is positive semidefinite, or that the closure is empirically adequate in every flow regime. No absence of backscatter for the exact filtered stress is asserted.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: The smooth periodic three-dimensional fields, , constant , normalized positive filter, and Countable Choice convention stated in the formulation.
Adopted mathematical axiom: every countable family of nonempty sets has a choice function (The Axiom of Countable Choice ()); it is retained because the normalized torus convention in the mathematical supplier adopts it.
Constant-density incompressible Newtonian model: the current F03 definition has constant, , a pressure multiplier in Pa, , , constant , and , with no boundary, initial-data, or existence assertion. The closure uses its smooth periodic subcase, with the periodic scalar field specified above.
Positive periodic convolution filter and subfilter stress: the mathematical filter uses a nonnegative smooth compactly supported unit-mass kernel, its periodization on , volume measure in the convolution, and exact stress ; this postulate uses .
