How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Separate massless shell action
Separate classical massless test-particle formulation with nonzero future-null momentum; no proper-time parameter, no mU identification and no empirical realization claim.
Postulate
On a prescribed background , choose an open parameter interval and a compact segment with . In a spacetime chart containing the curve and sufficiently small variations, let be smooth near , let be a smooth covector field along , and let be smooth and positive near . In this chart, write for , let be the inverse matrix, and define ; equivalently, for every tangent vector . Adopt the distinct massless classical particle action on this segment
Admissible variations are smooth one-parameter families of chart fields on a common neighborhood of , with and ; the and variations are independent and have no endpoint constraints, while for sufficiently small . Impose the physical branch only on stationary solutions after these variations: and is future null. With all spacetime coordinates measured in metres and dimensionless , has units kg m/s, has units kg²m²/s² and has units s/kg, making the action J s. Other parameter units scale accordingly. This is a separate adopted model: null curves have no proper-time parameter, the model does not arise by setting in , and its positive momentum scale is additional initial data. On the nonzero branch, the vertical differential is : nondegeneracy of and give . Hence the shell is a regular primary constraint in the sense of Regular primary constraints and total generator. This postulate is not an empirical observation or a deduction from the massive model.
The cotangent phase-space carrier convention assumes countable choice ACω only; full choice is not assumed.
