How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Cook isometry and intertwining
Statement
Assume the Axiom of Countable Choice (The Axiom of Countable Choice ()) and adopt all hypotheses of Cook domain criterion, writing its Hilbert space as and renaming its operators as : these are self-adjoint operators on with , dense and -invariant, for , norm-continuous for each , and the extensions constructed there. Then:
(a) Intertwining. for all , as bounded operators on .
(b) Domain and commutation. and for every .
(c) Range invariance. The closed subspace is invariant under for every , and in the sense of the isometric identification .
(d) , for every ; no surjectivity onto and no identification of with an absolutely continuous subspace is asserted.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: the data and conclusions of Cook domain criterion; ; vectors and .
are bounded linear isometries extending the full strong limits on all vectors; and (Cook domain criterion). Their norm is exactly when the Hilbert space is nonzero, since the norm of every unit vector is preserved, and exactly on the zero Hilbert space.
The explicit autonomous construction and adjoint-testing generator characterization in Cook domain criterion give strongly continuous groups on arbitrary Hilbert spaces under CC, with exactly when has a strong limit, then equal to . These are the full generator domains in Infinitesimal generator of a unitary group.
Proof
[Correct time shift on the full strong limits] For any real , the two group laws give , because both sides equal . The criterion gives full strong limits on every vector, and a fixed time shift preserves either infinite-time direction. Taking or and using boundedness of the fixed group factors therefore gives on the whole Hilbert space. This proves (a).
[Domain invariance and commutation] Fix and consider the difference quotient . By step 1.1 this equals ; since , the quotient converges to by [F2] and [F1]. Applying [F2] to self-adjoint shows and , that is . The argument for is identical.
[Range invariance] Fix either sign. For and , step 1.1 gives , which lies in ; hence the range is invariant, and the displayed operator identity holds on the range because is injective with on the range.
[Conclusion] Claims (a), (b), (c) are steps 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, and (d) is part of [F1]. No surjectivity or absolute-continuity statement has been used.
Remarks
For a bounded isometry , convergence implies . Isometry alone does not make this limit zero; no such assertion is used in the proof.
