How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite sign enumeration for real phase retrieval
Definition
Input a real measurement matrix with rows indexed by and columns indexed by , where and . Use row of the ordinary zero-based matrix for measurement label . Input nonnegative intensities , a mode in , a feasibility tolerance , a maximum sign-pattern count , and a linear-solve budget . Put .
For , let contain only the empty sign vector. For , let ordered lexicographically with before and labels in increasing order. This gives one representative from each pair . A signed right-hand side is , interpreted in the same zero-based row order as .
If or , return no candidates with status budget-exhausted. Otherwise compute one SVD of , form its unique Moore–Penrose inverse and kernel , then process at most the first patterns in and perform at most signed least-squares solves. Stop when either budget is exhausted. For each processed pattern , compute the minimum-Euclidean-norm least-squares solution and signed residual . The budget counts right-hand-side solves after the one SVD factorization.
- In exact mode, record the affine family when , together with . Mark it exact-feasible if and tolerance-feasible if . If and all patterns are processed, return the union of the exact-feasible families modulo , or report infeasible if this union is empty. For , report only the tolerance-qualified least-squares families; this is a tolerance screen, not a list of every vector whose residual is at most .
- In noisy mode, initialize the incumbent as unset. For the first processed pattern, store and . For each later processed pattern, replace the incumbent by exactly when is strictly smaller than the incumbent value; on a tie, keep the earlier pattern. Compute each visited candidate's squared amplitude residual before applying that update. The feasibility tolerance is not used in this mode.
- Return the candidates and a status. Exact mode returns exact-feasible/infeasible only when and all patterns are processed; positive tolerance returns tolerance-feasible/no-tolerance-fit when all patterns are processed. Noisy mode returns a completed best candidate when all patterns are processed. If either budget stops enumeration before all patterns are processed, return budget-exhausted with any candidates found. A budget-exhausted result makes no claim about unvisited patterns.
No statistical optimality or intensity-noise guarantee is part of this algorithm.
